D'Angelo Russell hit an unreal game-winner over Houston Rockets

D’Angelo Russell had the Brooklyn crowd on its feet at Barclays Center last night. The point guard got the Nets their back-to-back win over the third-seeded Houston Rockets. In a matter of seconds, Russell changed the trajectory of the game and pulled Brooklyn from a home loss. His unreal clutch game-winner sent the internet into a frenzy.

The Brooklyn Nets were down four points with 9.5 seconds left. As almost all hopes were gone of the fans, Keon Johnson made a jumper to cut the lead to one point. Beyond that, the Nets perfectly crafted the play. Tosan Evbuomwan stole the ball, taking advantage of Amen Thompson’s poor inbound. In milliseconds, D’Angelo Russell got the possession and shot from beyond the arc. The crowd erupted as the lead went to 99-97 with three seconds left.

Despite taking a timeout, the Rockets had limited seconds left. Jalen Green took over the responsibility but missed the three-pointer. Russell’s shot ended up sealing the game for Brooklyn. The last-second play was even surprising considering D’Lo’s rest of the night. The guard shot poorly with only three field goals made in the entire game. It seems that things worked out for the star exactly when he and the team needed it.

As offense was not working out for Russell, the player contributed defensively. Along with the game-winner, DLo grabbed four rebounds, five assists, with two steals and one block. The 28-year-old does seem happier in Brooklyn but has struggled with shooting. The game-winner might help Russell regain his confidence.

D’Angelo Russell’s midseason transition from the LA Lakers to the Nets raised a lot of questions. Considering the star’s underwhelming performances, many doubted his impact in Brooklyn. However, D’Lo is delighted to reunite with his former team. Just a few weeks ago, the guard made an admission of not taking his time with the Nets for granted again. The primary reason for that is Brooklyn’s coaching staff.

Immediately after the game ended, Russell was asked about his shot in the sideline interview. The 1xAll-Star without missing a beat gave the credit to the coaches. The staff did not panic under the pressure and made the right decisions. In the following press conference, DLo was asked the reason behind his ‘resilience’ compliment to the coaches.
