After leading the Colorado Buffaloes to a 9-3 finish—the college program’s first winning season since 2016—several NFL teams identified Deion Sanders as a potential head coach candidate. It’s a no-brainer considering his Hall of Fame status.
Sanders on the other hand, repeatedly turned down any advances from leaving Colorado for the NFL. He assured the fans in Boulder that he would stick around to build the foundation and culture of a winning program.
“I love Colorado. I love my Buffaloes. I love everything that we’re building,” Deion Sanders said on Wednesday while promoting his docuseries ‘Coach Prime’ on the show ‘GMA3 [Good Morning America]: What You Need to Know.’
According to the New York Post, the University of Colorado’s profit skyrocketed since Sanders became head coach. The college saw an 892% increase in team store revenue this year and a 2,544% surge year-over-year for the month of September (2023-2024). Sanders brought with him a massive fan following of stars, putting the Buffaloes on the college football map. So it would prove hard for NFL teams to lure the 57-year-old away from Colorado unless they meet one specific condition.

Quarterback Shedeur Sanders and defensive back Shilo Sanders declared for the draft right after Colorado’s season ended. Shilo is projected to be a late third- or early fourth-round pick whereas Shedeur is a top-10 pick and as per a few NFL scouts, he may even be a top-3 pick. However, Coach Prime wants both of his boys to play for the same team, and if the team has a vacancy for the head coach, then he might consider it.
Deion Sanders reveals Shedeur and Shilo’s draft day plans
The Sanders family is excited about the draft as they will finally get to find out which NFL teams they get to play for. However, neither of them will be present for the ceremony at Lambeau Field in Green Bay, Wisconsin, from April 24-26.
Deion first hinted that they would not attend the draft ceremony last year and it was later confirmed by Shedeur while Travis Hunter (the Heisman Trophy winner and potential first-overall pick) refrained from any comment on the matter until now.
