Coming from back-to-back losses, the fumble on the opening kickoff wasn’t looking good for the New York Giants, especially when a victory was desperately needed after the whole offseason saga. Although they recovered and ended up with a 21-15 victory, their opponents didn’t waste time in taking advantage of the opening play blunder.
It had only been seven seconds into the game and the Cleveland Browns were already leading with a grand 7-0 lead; courtesy of Cleveland’s Tony Brown, who forced the Giants returner Eric Gray to fumble the opening kickoff. As the ball prompted into the hands of the Browns, they had a loud cheer after making an impressive offensive play to take a lead in the game.
After Cleveland safety Grant Delpit recovered the ball, star quarterback Deshaun Watson made the strategic first play by throwing a pass aimed at wide receiver Amari Cooper on the left sideline. Fortunately, he caught the perfect 24-yard throw and logged a touchdown score.
This touchdown score was added with the additional point scored by Dustin Hopkins and brought the Browns into a 7-0 lead. Interestingly, this offensive play on the first drive created history marking the first play since 2005 when the Browns scored on their first play.
Deshaun Watson and Amari Cooper silence critics with touchdown connection
This touchdown connection between Watson and Cooper shut down the critics questioning the chemistry between the quarterback-wide receiver duo. Even though the team had recorded one victory in two weeks, the offensive line was under scrutiny which indeed dulled down after this play, regardless of the defeat.

In the first two games of this season, Watson could only log five receptions for 27 yards with Cooper, despite targeting him 17 times. However, this didn’t make the Browns’ signal-caller question his chemistry with the wideout and he claimed that sooner or later, fans will see the chemistry.
Following this strategic play in the first quarter in week 3, the Browns have found a reliable offensive duo that has the potential to threaten the opposing defense. The only reason for Watson and Cooper’s delayed chemistry is because of the former’s absence due to his suspension.
Meanwhile, the latter posted his back-to-back 1,000-yard seasons with Cleveland. However, as the season proceeds, there is indeed hope for this duo to bring back the glory days of the Browns.
