In Short
  • Draymond Green intervened to prevent a fight between teammates Brandin Podziemski and Quinten Post during a timeout.
  • The Golden State Warriors lost 113-109 to the New Orleans Pelicans, marking their second loss in three games since the All-Star break.
  • The Warriors currently sit at eighth place in the Western Conference standings, struggling without star player Stephen Curry.

It has not been the best of starts for Draymond Green and the Golden State Warriors after the All-Star break. With no Stephen Curry in the lineup, the Warriors were severely shorthanded on the offensive end. It was an unexpected and disappointing 113-109 loss to the New Orleans Pelicans at the Smoothie King Center on Tuesday night.

It was the Warriors’ second loss in three games since the All-Star break. The loss dropped their record to 30-28 as they sit at eighth place and in the play-in spots of the Western Conference standings. Meanwhile, the Pelicans improved to 17-42 and find themselves in 14th place in the standings.

It was a game that saw the Warriors down by 12 points after the first quarter and never coming back since. It has been a difficult 2025-26 campaign for Draymond Green.

Earlier this season, the former Defensive Player of the Year was involved in a heated exchange with head coach Steve Kerr during a timeout, which forced him to exit the game early. And for the first time in his 13-year spell with the Warriors, Green’s name was in the rounds as the franchise were trying to make a push for Giannis Antetokounmpo at the trade deadline.

While Green has had his fair share of altercations and ejections this season, the veteran was seen playing peacemaker on Tuesday night. During a timeout in the third quarter, tempers flared between Brandin Podziemski and Quinten Post. The disagreement stemmed from a missed opportunity on the previous possession.

Post was frustrated when Podziemski did not feed him the ball when he was open. Before things could get out of hand, Green intervened and tried to calm down his two teammates.

Green displayed his leadership qualities as he knows a thing or two about how quickly sideline arguments can spiral. Following Jimmy Butler‘s ACL tear, the Warriors are seeing their season dwindle with every passing game. Dub Nation will be hoping to see their star player, Stephen Curry, return to action soon.

Fans react to Draymond Green playing peacemaker during Warriors vs. Pelicans

Green has always been a player who cannot be defined by statistics. He brings in leadership, high defensive IQ, and tenacity to the Warriors. With his leadership on display, fans took to social media to react to the incident that took place against the Pelicans.

Most of the fans sided with Post and believe that Podziemski was at fault during the play. The young guard has been guilty of some poor plays this season as he adjusts to his role from the bench.

Brandin Podziemski has had an up-and-down season

After an impressive performance and a late-game surge against the Denver Nuggets, it looked like Brandin Podziemski is beginning to elevate his game and was ready to take the next step.

Steve Kerr expressed his thoughts on how Podziemski’s season has gone so far during a press conference.

It’s been up and down, for sure, but our season has been up and down as a whole, and sometimes a team’s struggles impact the individuals. But, we know what [Podziemski] can do for the last couple of years. He’s been one of our highest plus-minus players. The rebounding is what attracted us to him in the first place, coming out of Santa Clara. When a guy rebounds like that, you know he has great anticipation.

While he did record 16 points and 15 rebounds against the Pelicans, his decision-making still had a lot left to be desired. The 23-year-old is currently averaging 12.2 points, five rebounds, and 3.7 assists this season
