Emotional Chelsea Gray shares heartfelt moment after Aces’ semifinal win
Last night was a great one for the Las Vegas Aces and an emotional moment for Chelsea Gray as she broke down in tears after the team’s Game 2 victory over the Seattle Storm in the 2024 WNBA playoffs. The win secured the Aces’ spot in the semifinals, where they will face the New York Liberty.
Furthermore, Gray’s emotional postgame moment with her family reflected on a tough year that she has had since she suffered a left foot injury in the 2023 WNBA Finals. The emotional moment from Gray also caught the attention of teammate A’ja Wilson, who acknowledged and supported her during a postgame interview.
The game was a tough one for the veteran and despite her struggles on the court that night, she still contributed with 12 points, four rebounds, and nine assists. Meanwhile, unanimous MVP A’ja Wilson had a standout performance with 24 points, 13 rebounds, and two blocks, as well as Kelsey Plum who bounced back from a poor Game 1 performance and led all scorers with 29 points.
Although the Seattle Storm put up a strong fight throughout the game, Gabby Williams’ effort of 20 points as well as contributions from Nneka Ogwumike and Skylar Diggins-Smith weren’t enough. The Aces built an early lead but had to rely on their championship experience to fend off the Storm’s comeback attempts.
A’ja Wilson opens up about Chelsea Gray’s 2023 WNBA Finals injury
Tragedy struck when veteran star Chelsea Gray suddenly limped off the court in pain during Game 3 of the 2023 WNBA Finals leaving everyone that day in shock. Reflecting on the moment nearly a year later, A’ja Wilson shared her emotional response.
Her response was revealed when the Aces released Part One of ‘Back To Form: The Chelsea Gray Documentary’ on YouTube, where they explored Gray’s injury and her teammates’ reactions during that critical moment. Wilson, who had experienced a similar ankle injury in 2019, spoke from experience.
The Aces didn’t let the setback get in the way as they went on to defeat the New York Liberty and secure the championship. Unfortunately, Gray’s performance when she returned for the 2024 season had dipped as she averaged just 7.3 points in her first 12 games.
