The Toronto Blue Jays came out flying on Friday night in Game 1 of the World Series against the Los Angeles Dodgers. They would crush the defending champions 11-4 to take a 1-0 lead. During the game, fans would chant “We Don’t Need You” at Dodgers’ two-way star Shohei Ohtani.
After becoming a free agent following the conclusion of the 2023 season, Ohtani would explore several options. The Blue Jays were one of the teams who were in his sweepstakes.
The Japanese international did meet with the team. In the end, though, Ohtani ended up signing with the Dodgers on a 10-year $700 million deal, leaving the Blue Jays stranded once again.
Before this matchup, manager John Schneider would poke fun at the reigning National League MVP. After a reporter asked about the team’s chances of landing him back in 2023, the Blue Jays skipper would hilariously urge him to return the stuff he took from them after the meeting.
Ohtani would then respond it. The 31-year-old would claim that the stuff is still in his garage and then went on to praise the organization.
The Blue Jays fans, though, have not forgotten that free agency saga of his. As he entered the field on Friday, he was welcomed with loud boos from the crowd.

The Blue Jays once again launched a comeback. After going 2-0 down, they would level the game at 2-2 through a 2-run home run from Daulton Varsho in the 4th inning against Blake Snell. They would then break the game wide open in the 6th inning.
Snell ran into traffic and gave up walks, hits, and hit Varsho to load up the bases. He was then replaced by Emmet Sheehan, who conceded two runs. The highlight moment came when Addison Barger walked up to pinch-hit and replace Davis Schneider.
With the bases loaded and one out, Barger connected on an 85mph slider off Anthony Banda and sent the ball flying into right field for a grand slam. It turned out to be the first pinch-hit grand slam in World Series history.

Another 2-run home run from Alejandro Kirk saw the Blue Jays put up 9 runs in the 6th inning. Shohei Ohtani then hit a 2-run home run of his own in the 7th inning to make it an 11-4 game. This was his 6th home run of this postseason, and he became just the 2nd Japanese player, after Hideki Matsui, to hit a home run in the World Series.
In his next at-bat in the 9th inning, the Blue Jays fans took aim at Ohtani. Loud chants of “We don’t need you” were heard across the Rogers Centre as Ohtani tried to keep things alive. Check out a video regarding this below:

Ohtani ended up taking a walk in this at-bat. The Blue Jays would then pick up Mookie Betts as the final out to claim a thumping 11-4 win.
Shohei Ohtani and LA Dodgers trolled by Blue Jays fans following Game 1 loss
Shohei Ohtani and the Los Angeles Dodgers were blown away by the Toronto Blue Jays in Game 1 of the 2025 World Series. A 9-run 6th inning saw them get crushed 11-4. Following the game, they were trolled by the home fans.

Some fans were carrying a sign of “Daaaaaaa Dodgers Lose.” This was a reference to David Ortiz‘s phrase of “Daaaaaaa Yankees lose,” which he uses when the New York Yankees lose.
The former Boston Red Sox star had often used this phrase while mocking the signature call of former Yankees broadcaster John Sterling, who would energetically shout “The Yankees Win” when the Bronx Bombers won.
At the Fox Sports postgame show, Ortiz would then join the fans in delivering his signature line and laugh it off. Check out a video regarding this below:

The Dodgers now have a 1-11 record when starting a World Series game on the road. They will be hoping to avoid going 2-0 down on Saturday night. Following the game on Saturday, the two teams will travel to Los Angeles for Game 3 on Monday.
