Towards the end of the second quarter of the game between Mercury and Sparks, Brittney Griner and Rickea Jackson had a physical altercation.

The Phoenix Mercury went up against the Los Angeles Sparks in an intense game. During the game fans witnessed a physical altercation between Mercury veteran Brittney Griner and the Sparks rookie Rickea Jackson.
The altercation erupted during the final moments of the second quarter, with merely 18.8 seconds left on the clock. Emotions were running high, and the mounting tension culminated in a confrontation. Both stars, Brittney Griner and Rickea Jackson, were quickly separated by their vigilant teammates and the arena’s security personnel.
The conflict centered around a free throw that the Mercury had been awarded. Griner and Jackson were intensely jockeying for position to secure the rebound. As soon as the free throw was made, it sparked a clash between Griner and Jackson.
Griner pushed Jackson away and swung her right arm. Immediately after, both Griner and Jackson exchanged heated words while their teammates and security tried to separate them. Jackson continued to escalate the situation by attempting to shove the Mercury veteran away.
Displeased with Jackson’s aggressive actions, Griner tried to retaliate but was restrained by her teammates and security personnel. Ultimately, the intense altercation led to both stars being ejected from the game as the situation finally cooled off.
Before the altercation, Griner was having a great game and was asserting her dominance. The Mercury veteran had scored 14 points on 7-8 shooting from the field. She even added three rebounds and one assist.
On the other hand, Jackson struggled with her shot as she scored only eight points and had poor shooting form as she went 2-11 from the field. Eventually, the Phoenix Sparks managed to get the win over Los Angeles Sparks.
Brittney Griner hits back at fan online after her on-court altercation
After the altercation cooled off and the situation became normal, WNBA fans took social media by storm to express their views on the incident. Many fans blamed Brittney Griner for the incident as it was she who had landed the first blow toward Rickea Jackson.
One fan on social took the social media heat to another level as he called Griner ‘a man’ and further stated that the Mercury veteran always wants to fight on the court. The comments of the fan didn’t sit well with Griner as she hit back furiously.
Griner responded to the fan when the game between Mercury and Sparks was still going on and didn’t waste any time to clap back. It is worth noting that, Griner, one of the top stars in the WNBA, is averaging 18.0 points, 6.5 rebounds, and 2.4 assists with the Mercury.
