Maxime Cressy was unhappy with his performance and to let out his frustration he did a bizarre thing after his defeat. He was playing in the Qualifying rounds at the US Open against Britain’s Jan Choinski and lost the match after playing a pair of tie-breaks. 

Cressy lost the first set without winning a game but fought hard in the second to force the match to the decider and eventually to the tie-break. In the third set, both the players battled it out to play another tie-break where Cressy eventually lost 6-0, 6-7(5-7), 7-6(12-10).

As he failed to secure a spot in the main draw, which starts on August 2, Cressy lost his cool, but there was no smashing of his racket which is a common scene. Instead, when he sat down to pack his things, he started throwing away his items one after the other before finally picking up his bag and leaving the court.

On social media, netizens expressed their frustration with Cressy’s behavior, with a few saying he was to be blamed for his lackluster performance in the first set, and shouldn’t have thrown his trash for somebody to pick up.

How did Maxime Cressy fare in Grand Slam events?

Maxime Cressy, though he failed to make it to the main draw of the US Open, has made his debut in the main draw of a Grand Slam event in the 2020 US Open as a wild card entrant. He also reached the second round where the then fourth seed Stefanos Tsitsipas defeated him.

He made it to the second round of the US Open in 2021 as well. In 2022, he played three times in the main draw, giving his best at the Australian Open by reaching the fourth round. The World No. 497 last reached the Grand Slam main draw in 2023 at the French Open, playing just the first round. 

Cressy reached his best ranking in 2022 when he became World No. 31 in August. He turned pro in 2019 and won just one title on the ATP Tour at the 2022 Hall of Fame Open. On the ATP Challenger Tour, Cressy lifted three singles and two doubles trophies. 

The 27-year-old also plays doubles and became World No. 64 in May 2023 and won one title. In doubles as well, he is yet to reach the quarterfinals in a major event.
