Jack Draper vomited on the court during his US Open semi-final match against Jannik Sinner. Despite the incident, the left-hander grabbed a towel and cleaned it himself. The chair umpire offered him a break, but Draper chose to keep playing.
The match had already gone on for more than two hours. Draper was determined to push through, even though he was clearly struggling with stomach issues. However, Sinner quickly capitalized on the British player’s condition and won the next point and game.
It was the second time Draper had vomited during the match. He was drenched in sweat and battling hard, but his body was not holding up.
Sinner also faced physical problems in the second set. He fell during a rally but got up quickly, hitting a powerful shot to win the point. Unfortunately, he hurt his wrist in the process and needed medical attention.
Jack Draper enjoyed a dream US Open run
British tennis star Jack Draper entered the US Open with some controversy. He won a match against Felix Auger-Aliassime at the Cincinnati Open, but it involved a questionable umpire call on match point. Many believed Draper should have given up the point rather than accepting the umpire’s decision.
The incident evoked strong reactions from many notable tennis stars. Despite this, the left-hander has put the incident behind him and has been performing well at the US Open.
It’s amazing, honestly. To be out here for my first match on the biggest court in the world, honestly, it’s a dream come true for me. All the support means the world.Jack Draper said after beating Alex de Minaur in the US Open quarterfinals
Draper’s strong showing has excited British tennis fans, especially after Andy Murray’s retirement. The 22-year-old is showing that the future of British tennis is promising. He is only the fourth British player to reach the men’s singles semi-final at the US Open in the Open Era. The other players were Greg Rusedski, Tim Henman, and Murray.
No matter the outcome of his semi-final, Draper has already secured a new career-high ranking. He has risen to No. 20 in the live rankings and could go as high as 14th if he makes it to the final.
