James Harden fumble leads to Clippers Loss on opening night

The Los Angeles Clippers inaugurated their new home at the Intuit Dome in Inglewood for their season opener. They hosted the Phoenix Suns in a matchup that went down to the wire. However, it was Clippers Superstar James Harden’s last-second ‘fumble’ that cost the team a victory at their brand new $2 billion arena.

The Clippers lost to the Suns 116-113 in overtime in a game that went down to the final possession. It was James Harden’s third-quarter heroics that helped the Clippers climb out of a 14-point deficit to make it a close game.

With just 3 seconds remaining in overtime and the Clippers down by 3, Coach Ty Lue drew up a play to get their leading scorer the ball. However, as the ball was inbounded to Harden, the former MVP’s butter fingers ruined the play.

Harden lost control of the ball on the inbounds pass, allowing the Suns to steal it. The game ended with Harden and the Clippers unable to even get a shot off to tie the game. It was Harden’s missed free throw just seconds prior to the inbounds steal, which allowed the Suns to take the lead instead of heading towards a potential second overtime.

While The Beard showed flashes of his MVP days throughout the game, he seemed to run out of gas as the game went to overtime. With the team set to miss lead star Kawhi Leonard for an indefinite period of time, the success of the Clippers will rely heavily on James Harden. The team lacks a supplementary shot-creator apart from Harden, and his ability to carry the team’s offensive load will ultimately determine their success.

James Harden speaks on Steph Curry and major 3-point record

James Harden has been amongst the standout stars of the modern NBA. Before the Clippers season opener against the Suns, the former MVP, in a conversation with ESPN’s Shams Charania, revealed his thoughts on fellow California superstar Steph Curry.

Harden and Warriors superstar Steph Curry were both drafted in the lottery of the 2009 NBA draft. He praised Curry and said that the Warriors star was an outlier in regard to shooting ability.

You listen, I’m going to consider myself No. 1. Steph doesn’t count. Y’all see what that dude be doing? And we came in the same year. I can’t speak for Steph, but for me it’s like, when I got drafted and was trying to find my way in the league and all that, I didn’t expect it to be this level.

James Harden said

Harden is just 33 made three-pointers away from tying the legendary Ray Allen (2,973) for the second-most in NBA history.
