Fans appear to be convinced that they saw disgust on the face of Dallas Cowboys owner and General Manager Jerry Jones, when his team stumbled upon another opportunity to secure a win, resulting in another poor loss.
After a two-game winning streak, the players and Jones were optimistic about finishing the season with a reputed record. However, the Week 14 loss against the Cincinnati Bengals crushed all their hopes, especially after a blunder caused it. And the sheer disappointment on Jones’ face in the VIP booth was hard to miss.
The Cowboys were 20-20 against the Bengals when they were about to take over after Nick Vigil blocked a Cincinnati punt ahead of the two-minute warning. But the cornerback Amani Oruwariye’s decision to try and field the loose ball proved costly.
He made a huge blunder by getting in contact with the ball and failing to control it, which gave their opponents the 27-20 victory on a silver platter as they recovered and retained possessions. As the Cowboys crumbled after Oruwariye’s critical mistake, the camera panned toward the owner Jones, whose expressions spoke volumes about his thoughts.
The 82-year-old was seen covering his mouth with his hand to avoid lip-reading as he muttered something under his breath, which fans interpreted as sheer disgust.
Jerry Jones backs Mike McCarthy amid job security concerns
As much backlash as this loss brought to the cornerback Oruwariye, head coach Mike McCarthy’s job also appeared to be jeopardized. However, the Cowboys General Manager hasn’t lost confidence in McCarthy just yet, believing he is an amazing football coach.
Jones’ confidence in the head coach is also fueled by the dedication quarterback Dak Prescott and the rest of the locker room had toward him. Against the Bengals also, they played fairly well and would have clinched the victory if the last-minute blunder hadn’t occurred.
However, the Cowboys owner is not ready to decide whether to retain McCarthy for another season for the sake of players or implement what fans are suggesting, for once amid the ongoing uncertainty about his future in Dallas.
