Washington Wizards star Jordan Poole has been making headlines lately regarding his recent altercation with Pistons star Jalen Duren.

Jalen Duren and Jordan Poole

Jordan Poole does not have a kind history regarding his altercations on the court with fellow NBA rivals. Similarly, the Washington Wizards played against the Detroit Pistons on Tuesday night. Notably, Poole was spotted shoving Pistons star Jalen Duren in a viral clip. However, he quickly backtracked after watching Duren coming towards him.

The incident occurred at Little Caesars Arena in Detroit when the teams began pushing one another approximately halfway through the first quarter. Poole decided to get involved in the fight, shoving Jalen Duren in the chest. Duren, who is 6’10” tall, swiftly gave Poole an accusing glance.

Interestingly, as Duren began walking towards the 6’4″ Poole, he withdrew, indicating that he wanted ‘no smoke’ with him. JD gestured to Poole as if to say, “I thought so.” The Warriors dealt Poole to the Wizards in 2023, and he is not new to clashing on the floor. He had a wild practice court battle in Golden State in late 2022, during which he received a fade from his Warriors colleague Draymond Green.

Green eventually apologized, but many think the incident sparked a season-long schism within the team, derailing the season. On the other hand, Poole is averaging more than 21 points per game for the Wizards, who are in last place (13-51) this season. Also, the Pistons won Tuesday’s game, 123-103.

Jordan Poole opened up on his Warriors exit

For whatever reason, the media scrutinized everything while the Milwaukee native starred for the Golden State Warriors. The soaring peaks of an NBA title and the plummeting lows of a training incident never left people’s memories. Now, at Washington, it’s different. Notably, Poole opened up on the contrasting differences he faced at the Warriors compared to his present at the Wizards.

I was never a spotlight guy, Never cared for it. I just love to hoop. I love going out there and competing. But I’ve always risen to the occasion on the highest level.

Jordan Poole told Marc J. Spears of Andscape.com

The Wizards, who have the NBA’s worst record, are not quite at that point, but Poole motivates himself to improve. He has reached career highs of 21.3 points, 4.8 assists, and 1.4 steals per game, and his offensive load is bigger than ever.

He remains the team’s leading scorer and playmaker, a change from his position in Golden State, where he served as the supporter to Curry’s dominance.

Jordan Poole sets new heights with Wizards’ young roster

For the time being, Washington is in the process of developing its franchise. The 6’4″ guard isn’t bounded by future Hall of Famers; rather, prospects who are still finding their feet beside him. The Wizards’ nucleus consists of raw, unproven talent: Alex Sarr, Bilal Coulibaly, Bub Carrington, and Kyshawn George, all of whom are 21 or younger. Jordan Poole had a positive view regarding the Wizards’ young roster.

New environment, new situation. It’s only a matter of time before we put ourselves in that situation too, to be at the biggest stage as well. It’s what we’re grinding for.

Jordan Poole told Andscape

They face a long road forward. The NBA Draft Lottery, rather than the playoffs, appears to be the team’s next important event. Interestingly, the recent additions of veterans Khris Middleton and Marcus Smart provided much-needed requirements of seasoned stability. It remains to be seen how the Wizards will perform going forward in the league.
