(Video) Lakers fans throw a fit after CONTROVERSIAL Anthony Davis foul call costs JJ Redick’s winning streak
LA Lakers expressed their frustration after a controversial missed foul on Anthony Davis resulted in the team's first loss this season.
Anthony Davis fouled as JJ Redick upset
Anthony Davis has been a dominant force since the start of the 2024-25 season. The Los Angeles Lakers big man has been unstoppable so far in the season. However, Davis’s heroics weren’t enough to keep JJ Redick and the Lakers’ unbeaten winning streak alive after they fell 109-105 to the Phoenix Suns.
But a Lakers game not being marred by controversy is an unlikely scenario. The controversy in question occurred late in the fourth quarter. The Lakers were in a tight contest with the Suns down the stretch of the game.
With just about a minute left, and the Lakers down three points, Davis found himself in the paint for a contested shot at the rim. As Davis rose to finish the play with a slam, he was seemingly fouled by two Suns players. However, the referees did not notice the contact and the play went on with Davis missing the shot.

The potentially missed foul call would have resulted in the Lakers getting 2 free throws. Davis may have had the opportunity to sink 2 shots at the charity stripe to get the Lakers within 1 point of the Suns. Instead, the Lakers went down the stretch of the game down by 3 points. They would ultimately fall short of the Suns, following two dagger free throws by Bradley Beal to make it a two-possession game.

That said, Anthony Davis still had a monster night. The Lakers center finished the game with 29 points, 15 boards, and three blocks while shooting 50% from the field. However, a lackluster 11-point outing by LeBron James caused the Lakers offense to fall short. The Suns victory ended JJ Redick and the Lakers’ three-game winning streak to open the season, handing them their first loss.
Lakers fan furious with officiating after missed Anthony Davis foul
While the Lakers fell short on the court, the outburst of anger from Laker fans never falls short. As soon as the game ended, fans of the team took to social media platform X to rant about the missed call on Anthony Davis.
As videos and closeups of the potential foul surfaced online, Lakers fans immediately pointed out the excessive contact to Davis on the play. Many fans raged about the game being ‘rigged’ against the Lakers. Some, however, looked to Davis to finish the shot through contact.

At the end of the day, the Lakers still stand strong in the Western Conference. They sit at the third seed, trailing only the unbeaten Thunder and Phoenix Suns. The Suns took over the second seed from the Lakers, sitting comfortably with a 3-1 record.
So far, Phoenix has performed exceedingly well, earning their only loss at the hands of the Lakers in their first matchup of the season. The Lakers now travel to Cleveland to take on the top seed in the East, the Cleveland Cavaliers.
