After two humiliating defeats, the New York Giants finally scored their first victory of the season against the Cleveland Browns in week 3. But what made the headlines profoundly was the rookie Malik Nabers’ impressive touchdown, marking his third in the NFL.

Even though the Giants had a lackluster start to the game with a fumble on the opening kickoff, they instantly recovered, thanks to Nabers. Heading into week 3’s game, the Giants were in desperate need of a victory, especially after losing their best player Saquon Barkley, and having their quarterback Daniel Jones under intense scrutiny.

But they sure made the right pick by drafting Nabers in the first round of the 2024 NFL Draft as he scored two fabulous touchdowns late in the second quarter in the final two minutes remaining to the halftime. His first one indeed made him a hero as he made sure to land within the boundaries of the endzone after catching his first TD throw from quarterback Jones, right before falling.

But what wowed the fans completely was the way he snatched the ball right from the hands of opposing cornerback Martin Emerson Jr. and scored a 28-yard touchdown, while saving an interception.

His second TD came instantly after in the middle of the end zone. With a five-yard touchdown, Nabers logged his third career touchdown in the last three games with a 20-reception and became the first NFL player to do so, according to ESPN Stats & Info

Brian Daboll lauds Malik Nabers’ play to avoid potential interception

While Nabers received appreciation for being the young receiver to record two touchdowns in a game, the Giants head coach Brian Daboll praised him for saving quarterback Jones from a possible interception when he snatched the ball from the Browns’ defender’s hand.

The awareness to knock the ball down. That play, to me, says more about Malik than some of the other things, which everybody can see, the touchdowns and stuff, but the unselfish play, the smart play that he made was a huge play in the game, Huge.
Brian Daboll told the reporters about the rookie wide receiver

In these few games, though the Giants didn’t succeed in the first two games, Nabers’ impact is evident on the team. He has significantly enhanced the passing game for quarterback Jones and the team. He finished week 3’s game by recording eight passes on 12 targets for 78 yards along with two touchdowns.
