Dallas Mavericks owner Patrick Dumont faces fans wrath after Luka Doncic trade

The situation surrounding the Dallas Mavericks after trading away Luka Doncic has pushed the team to hire additional security. GM Nico Harrison has faced death threats and now with majority owner Patrick Dumont making some bizarre comments, fans are enraged.

His comments suggested he did not see the passion and drive in their former franchise cornerstone. Instead, he wants only those players to be a part of the team who are motivated to do whatever it takes to win NBA titles.

In the immediate aftermath, Harrison’s seat was moved from the front row after fears that fans would take shots at him. Then there were some who displayed obvious messages asking for him to be fired, only for those fans to be removed forcefully.

It was a little later than half-time when Patrick Dumont stepped on to the court. He was making his way to his designated seat along with two other people. The crowd inside American Airlines Center started booing the heir to the $32 billion Adelson empire loudly. As Dumont started to sit down, he seemingly asked his friends.

Is that for me?

Patrick Dumont asked

Quite a lot of seats inside the arena was empty. Despite that, the boos were loud enough that FOX 4 News’ recording clearly revealed what those fans truly felt. However, his question to his friends was bizarre, considering those fans know there is no way Nico Harrison traded away their favorite player without his approval.

Luka Doncic trade fallout has impact on head coach Jason Kidd

Those boos probably were loud enough that every person inside the American Airlines Center knew what was happening. ESPN’s resident Dallas Mavericks reporter Tim MacMahon was covering the team during their loss to the Sacramento Kings.

He revealed that head coach Jason Kidd skipped the post-game media session. What made him do that is unknown, but MacMahon believes he could have been the cool head this team needs. NBA Today host Malika Andrews suggested it is not normal for a head coach to skip media sessions.

Players do it from time to time. But head coaches are the first line of communication between the team and the media. Both journalists feel with the way the fans booed Patrick Dumont, there was going to be a line of questioning.

In addition to that, reporters were also ready to ask about security ushering out protesting fans. MacMahon believes the Dallas Mavericks should not have resorted to such measures. This could end up infuriating those fans more.

With the current injury crisis the team is facing, those boos might become louder. All four centers, Anthony Davis, Derek Lively II, Daniel Gafford and Dwight Powell are out injured. The team are currently eighth and could slide down if they continue losing games.

The worst that could happen is if they lose out on a playoff spot. But if that were to happen, those already riled up fans could become angrier. They were hoping for an NBA Finals rerun once Luka Doncic came back from injury.
