Marriage proposals to tennis players are not a new thing. There have been many instances when a spectator has thrown the “will you marry me” question at the players. To an already long list, a new name was added on Tuesday (October 22) when Ben Shelton got a marriage proposal during his match against Tomas Martin Etcheverry.

The American tennis star locked horns with Etcheverry in the first round of the ATP 500 tournament in Basel, Switzerland. During the second set of the contest, he got a proposal from a spectator at the stadium.

Despite that brief interruption, Shelton kept his focus to emerge victorious. He beat Tomas Martin Etcheverry 6-3, 6-4, and in doing so, climbed three places to No. 20 in the ATP live rankings. The former University of Florida standout joins countrymen Taylor Fritz (No. 6), Tommy Paul (No. 12), and Frances Tiafoe (No. 15) in the Top 20.
