Noah Lyles, one of the fastest runners in the world won the 100m dash and claimed Gold at the 2024 Paris Olympics. However, despite winning Gold, it was Team USA basketball and Philadelphia 76ers star Joel Embiid who caught most of the attention on the internet for his reaction to Lyles winning Gold.
In the video making rounds on the internet, Embiid was seen leaving the stadium as soon as Lyles was announced as the winner of the 100m dash, narrowly edging Jamaican sprinter, Kishane Thompson. Embiid’s exit took the basketball community by storm as they could not hold back their laughter and put their views on various social media platforms.
One fan wrote on X, Joel Embiid was quick asf to leave when Noah Lyles won (laughing emoji)” Interestingly, Embiid has already been making headlines for his performances with Team USA at the 2024 Paris Olympics, and with these off-the-court antiques he does not seem to be leaving the spotlight anytime soon.
On the other hand, Lyles passed out some harsh comments last year regarding the NBA for calling its league winner the “world champions.” This did not go down well with the NBA stars as they bounced back toward Lyles’ comments on social media. It remains to be seen what happens next with this story in the upcoming days.
NBA stars mocked Noah Lyles for ‘world champions’ criticism
The incredible American sprinter Noah Lyles accomplished a tremendous feat in track and field at the 2023 World Athletics Championships in Budapest by winning three gold medals. However, after winning the Gold he talked about the NBA, criticizing the players for labeling themselves as “world champions” after winning the title.
This did not go down well with the NBA players as Kevin Durant and Devin Booker of the Phoenix Suns chimed in to put Lyles in his place. “Somebody help this brother,” while Booker added a face-palm emoji. Denver Nuggets’ Aaron Gordon added, “Whatever… I’m smoking buddy in the 200m.” Tyler Herro wrote on X, “The NBA is the best league in the world. That’s why the champs are ‘world champs.'”
NBA stars do play in a tough league. Stars like Nikola Jokic, Luka Doncic, and 2023 No. 1 overall choice Victor Wembanyama are all foreign-born, showcasing the international nature of the league. However, they need to take a hint from clubs such as Real Madrid and Manchester City, who don’t call themselves world champions just because they won their domestic league. On the other hand, Noah Lyles is a true world champion.
