The Jacksonville Jaguars, looking to bounce back from the divisional loss to the Seattle Seahawks, expected to snatch a win from the Los Angeles Rams on Sunday afternoon. Playing at a packed Wembley Stadium in London, the Jaguars quickly lost their footing in the game as the Rams charged ahead with a lead.

The Jaguars trailed 21-0 heading into halftime as their offense stayed silent and the defense offered very little resistance. The players were not at their best in the field, but they had far more elements against them in the Week 7 game. The referees reportedly called plays that weren’t really there.

The Jaguars opened the game with a punt on their first offensive drive, while the Rams capitalized on their initial possession, efficiently advancing down the field. As they approached the Jaguars’ end zone, a highly questionable officiating decision drew widespread criticism.

NFL analyst Chris Trapasso described the call as a leading contender for the “worst of the year”. Given the circumstances, it isn’t easy to disagree with their assessments. NFL Insider Dov Kleiman questioned what the referees found as unnecessary roughness in the particular scene. Ryan O’Halloran of the Florida Times-Union remarked that the referees “made their presence felt” with a poor decision.

The LA Rams secure a win heading into the bye week

The Los Angeles Rams (5-2) kept the momentum intact from the beginning to the end as they routed the Jacksonville Jaguars 35-7 at Wembley Stadium. The dominant win also carried the Rams to a 5–2 record, their strongest start since their Super Bowl triumph in 2021. The Rams, who head for a prolonged absence, leave the competition for now on a positive note.

The Rams QB Matthew Stafford threw five touchdown passes in the commanding victory over the Jaguars, becoming the first quarterback in NFL history to reach that mark in an international game. Smiling afterward, he playfully asked, “Do I get a sword or something?” Additionally, Stafford, 37, also marked his first five-touchdown game since Thanksgiving of 2015, when he was with Detroit.

The opponents failed miserably in trying to contain Matthew Stafford. Stafford distributed the ball with calm precision, completing 21 of 33 passes for 182 yards and connecting with wide receiver Davante Adams for three touchdowns. He also found rookies Konata Mumpfield and Terrance Ferguson for scores. Ferguson and Mumpfield compensated for the absence of leading receiver Puka Nacua, who was sidelined with an ankle injury.

The Jaguars, who entered the game 4–2, never found their rhythm. Quarterback Trevor Lawrence completed 23 of 48 passes for 296 yards and one touchdown, a short strike to rookie Travis Hunter, who recorded his first career score and finished with eight receptions for 101 yards.

Jacksonville’s offensive line was overwhelmed throughout the afternoon, allowing seven sacks and committing 13 penalties for 119 yards. The Rams’ performance was sharp despite the logistical challenges of international travel.

Arriving in London on Saturday, the team showed no signs of fatigue, scoring on three of its first four possessions. Mumpfield’s first career touchdown, a 5-yard catch at the back of the end zone, capped a 13-play drive to open the game. Adams followed with two scores before halftime, and Ferguson’s 31-yard touchdown on fourth-and-one early in the fourth quarter sealed the outcome.

Linebacker Byron Young extended his sack streak to nine consecutive regular-season games, anchoring a defensive front that rarely allowed Jacksonville a moment’s comfort.

The Rams now enter their bye week before hosting the New Orleans Saints at SoFi Stadium in Week 9. The Jaguars, also heading into a bye, will travel to face the Las Vegas Raiders at Allegiant Stadium afterward.
