Indian ODI captain Rohit Sharma shared a video of his time together with daughter Samaira, while on a break from playing for the Men in Blue. Sharma played a tricky game of ‘Don’t Spill the Water’ challenge with his daughter, with the latter emerging as the winner at the end.
Rohit Sharma is on an extended break, having last played a competitive match in IPL 2025. He has also not played for the Indian team since March 2025, when the Men in Blue won the Champions Trophy for the third time. The 38-year-old, midway through the IPL season, had shockingly announced his retirement from the longest format of the game, with Shubman Gill succeeding him as new red-ball skipper.
He remained out of action, while the Indian Men’s cricket team played a five-match Test series against England, away from home. Sharma might have returned to playing international cricket last month, but the scheduled white-ball tour to Bangladesh was cancelled. As the Indian T20I team plays in the ongoing 2025 Asia Cup, Rohit Sharma remains out, also having retired from the shortest format of the game.
Amidst the absence, there have been discussions surrounding the 38-year-old’s future with the Indian cricket team, with rumors rife that Sharma might be contemplating retirement, much ahead of the 2027 ODI World Cup. However, for now, the break has allowed Sharma to spend quality time with his family, including his wife Ritika Sajdeh, his six-year-old daughter Samaira, and his ten-month-old son Ahaan.
Sharma indulged in the popular ‘Don’t Spill the Water’ challenge with Samaira, with the heartfelt video of their father-daughter moment being shared on Instagram. The 38-year-old and his daughter took turns to pour water into a glass in order to fill to the brim, with the aim of not letting it overflow. Sharma ended up spilling the water himself, making Samaira the winner. It compelled the cricketer to hide his face, before he shared a warm hug with his daughter.
Meanwhile, Rohit Sharma is now getting ready for the upcoming white-ball tour to Australia, where he is expected to lead the team in three ODIs. Earlier this month, he was seen training and undergoing fitness tests at the BCCI’s Centre of Excellence in Bengaluru, along with other Indian players.
Suryakumar Yadav Makes Hilarious ‘Rohit Sharma-Like’ Mistake at the Toss Against Oman
Suryakumar Yadav made a hilarious blunder similar to that of former skipper Rohit Sharma, during the coin toss at an Asia Cup group stage encounter against Oman at the Sheikh Zayed Stadium in Abu Dhabi. The incident happened after Yadav won the toss and elected to bat first.

Yadav stepped up to talk about the team’s strategies and the playing XI. The 35-year-old named pacer Harshit Rana as the first change in the XI, but surprisingly forgot the name of the second player. He scratched his head to try and remember the name of the second player being included, repeating the line once again, before he went ahead to ask bowling coach Morne Morkel about the second change.
We have two changes, Harshit [Rana] comes in, one more guy comes in [can’t remember his name]. I have become like Rohit [Sharma].
As Suryakumar Yadav, presenter Ravi Shastri and Oman captain Jatinder Singh had a hearty laugh, fans were reminded of Rohit Sharma. The 38-year-old had a reputation of forgetting the names of players at the coin toss, and used to make errors while naming the playing XI. Meanwhile, it came to light that Arshdeep Singh was the second change that ‘SKY’ was referring to during the coin toss, against Oman.

For their final group-stage encounter, India made two bowling changes. Ace pacer Jasprit Bumrah was rested ahead of the ‘Super Fours’ stage, with Arshdeep Singh taking his spot. Additionally, Hashrit Rana was brought into the XI in place of spinner Varun Chakravarthy.
