Saquon Barkley’s decision to leave the New York Giants and join divisional rivals Philadelphia Eagles has resulted in similar repercussions to that of LeBron James’ infamous decision in 2010. The running back returned to MetLife Stadium as the Giants host the Eagles in Week 7.
Unsurprisingly, Saquon Barkley was welcomed to a stadium that sounded louder than ever in bringing his spirit down. The running back was hoping that the Giants fanbase would have gotten over his decision to leave by this point but that is not how New Yorkers are.
The Giants’ fanbase loves to support their team even though they have been going through a rough phase for the last few years. The boos began right after Saquon Barkley stepped onto the field at MetLife Stadium. However, the boos do not compare to the sight he witnessed as he arrived at the stadium in the morning.

Saquon Barkley played six seasons for the New York Giants
The running back told FOX Sports that he saw fans burning his jersey as he walked into the stadium. That ought to have been a distressing sight for him considering he was drafted by the Giants’ franchise and MetLife Stadium was his home until earlier this year.
The running back made a business decision to take his talents to Philadelphia, however, to the Giants fans, this was a personal decision. They were hurt by his decision to leave without giving the home team a chance to match the offer made by Philly. After he left, fans were infuriated with Barkley and so were veterans like Tiki Barber who took shots at him and went as far as to tell him that he was “dead” to the New York fanbase.
Tonight’s matchup was viewed as being a revenge match for Saquon Barkley. The running back dismissed these notions in an interview with ESPN recently. He decided to join the divisional rivals with the hopes of a better financial prospect and to join a legitimate contender to the Super Bowl. The Giants could have given him either one of these things but Philadelphia offered him the best of both worlds.
