If day one of the 2025 NFL draft didn’t go according to plan, then day 2 was even worse for Shedeur Sanders. Someone pranked him with a fake GM call.

Sanders swept the day one disappointment under the rug and prepared to face his destiny on day two. He set up shop on a couch outside his house with his Hall of Fame dad, Deion Sanders, and brother Shilo Sanders.

Most analysts were banking on the Cleveland Browns selecting Shedeur with one of their three second-round picks, but his name wasn’t called on either occasion.

Around this time, Sanders received a call from someone impersonating an NFL general manager. The 23-year-old’s eyes lit up. It was finally his time.

However, he soon realized something wasn’t right. Usually, GMs greet players by saying their name and the team’s name, but the caller told Sanders that he has to wait a bit longer.

What does that mean?,” Shedeur Sanders can be heard saying in a video of the incident that was shared on X.

The call ended after a brief pause, creating confusion. Even the media personnel that were present looked perplexed. Eventually, everyone realized that it was a fake call to embarrass Shedeur.

There was still time for other teams to draft the Colorado quarterback who led the FBS with 74% pass completion last year. After the Browns completed their selections, all eyes at the Sanders household turned to the Saints, like the previous day.

The Saints passed on him once again. Kellen Moore’s team drafted 25-year-old quarterback Tyler Shough from the Louisville Cardinals at 40th overall.

At 92 (third round), the Seattle Seahawks surprised everyone. Before the draft, they announced listening offers for Sam Howell because they signed Drew Lock. So, no one was prepared to hear Jalen Milroe’s name called at that spot. Another heartbreak for Sanders.

Two picks later at 94, the Browns added Oregon’s Dillon Gabriel to their roster. Day 2 ended with the Vikings selecting wide receiver Tai Felton from Maryland at 102.

Former NFL wide receiver Chad Johnson blamed the media and the team owners for shunning Sanders because he’s the son of Deion Sanders.

This has been a collective effort. Media, GMs, and owners, for the simple fact they allowed [Shedeur to slide down the draft due to his last name]… There’s no other reason. Just turn the film on.

Shannon Sharpe kept his recent legal troubles aside to attend the draft with Johnson and said he wants a quarterback like Sanders.

I want my quarterback confident. Because if he doesn’t have that, he can’t play. I don’t care what the skill set is, you gotta have confidence. You just gotta believe. In pro sports you have to believe you are the baddest mothf**** out here. And I am here for it.

Denver Broncos head coach Sean Payton was shocked, too, when no team drafted Sanders on day 2.

I think we’re all surprised and yet, the talent, holy cow… There will be this chip on his shoulder and beware, because this guy is going to play in this league. I think it’s hard for any of us to explain what other people are looking for. We focus on what we’re looking for. I think it’s surprising.

Sean Payton said during their press conference

Everyone was waiting for a reaction from Shedeur and got one. He and Shilo streamed from their house.

God don’t make mistakes. I got faith in GOD no matter what. Whatever it is.

Shedeur Sanders said

The situation looks bleak. Teams that wanted quarterbacks drafted one and probably won’t go back for another rookie signal-caller on the final day. As ESPN’s Adam Schefter mentioned, “I think we may get a team that we never connected to him.” The only hope for Sanders is that the Steelers finally make their move.
