Philadelphia sports have had a successful few days. The injury-plagued Philadelphia 76ers defeated the Chicago Bulls on Saturday in a crucial victory that moved them closer to a play-in berth. For the second time in three seasons, the Philadelphia Eagles dominated their way into the Super Bowl the next day. Notably, Paul George was also present at the Eagles’ matchup.
George was driving on Broad Street a few moments after the Eagles booked a Super Bowl ticket. Naturally, he was surrounded by a throng of fans celebrating the Eagles’ NFC Championship win. But a crucial observation was made by a few fans. George’s left pinky finger was in a brace. This is because, in his latest matchup against the Bulls, George did not return in the 3rd quarter because of a “left fifth finger (pinkie) injury.”

From the look of it, it isn’t as troubling as it appears. It can be a standard precaution to avoid making the injury worse. However, these times are delicate. 76ers’ head coach, Nick Nurse announced that George would have an MRI on Sunday following the crucial victory over the Bulls. Also, the MRI results are still pending.
In addition to George, Joel Embiid, KJ Martin, Caleb Martin, and Jared McCain (out for the season) are among the Sixers’ injured players. Every victory is crucial for a club that is currently 17-27 going ahead. The only thing the 76ers supporters can hope for is that George hasn’t suffered a serious injury that would keep him from playing.

A Sixers official stated during the third quarter of the Sixers’ game against the Bulls that Paul George would not be making a comeback due to a “left fifth finger (pinkie) injury.” At 5:06 in the second quarter, the nine-time All-Star wing was replaced and returned to the Sixers’ locker room. At the beginning of the second half, he did not return. He was replaced by Justin Edwards to start the third quarter.

After agreeing to a four-year, $212 million contract with the Sixers, George has struggled with left knee and groin issues in his debut season. He has missed 14 games. George averaged 17.4 points, 5.8 rebounds, and 4.8 assists in the 29 games he played before Saturday. Getting along with his new teammates has also been more difficult due to the Sixers’ numerous other injuries.
The MRI results for George’s injury have still not been released to the public. Nick Nurse also stated that he had no ‘major update’ regarding George. Also, they would have to wait for the MRI results instead. It now remains to be seen what happens next with George and his ‘pinkie injury’ in the upcoming days.
