South Carolina’s strong first-half performance was overshadowed by an off-field incident involving a state trooper. Cameras caught the trooper yelling at Gamecocks wide receiver Nyck Harbor.
Seconds after picking off Texas A&M quarterback Marcel Reed, the Gamecocks went down the other end to score a touchdown. South Carolina quarterback LaNorris Sellers threw a dot to Harbor, who ran 80 yards for a TD.
The momentum dragged Harbor into the stadium tunnel, where he celebrated with his teammates. On his way back, Harbor had a run-in with a Texas trooper stationed inside the stadium. The replay showed the trooper bumped into Harbor and Oscard Adaway III and even pointed fingers at them.

Social media erupted with questions regarding the trooper’s intentions. Shortly after, the Texas Department of Public Safety tweeted that the trooper was relieved of his gameday assignment.
The Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) is aware of the incident that occurred today during the Texas A&M football game. The DPS Trooper involved was sent home from the game. Our Office of Inspector General (OIG) is also aware of the incident and will be further looking into the matter. No additional information will be released at this time.

What happened to Nyck Harbor?
Harbor was experiencing a career day when he met with a serious injury. Three minutes to go in the fourth quarter, Harbor caught an 18-yard pass on 4th and 6 to keep the Gamecocks alive as they chased down a 1-point lead.

It turned out to be Harbor’s last involvement in the game. After making the catch, Harbor stayed down on the ground as the medical team examined him. A short pause later, he was escorted to the medical tent for further evaluation.

Harbor did not return to the game, which ended in a 30-31 defeat for the Gamecocks. In an interview with On3.com, the Gamecocks’ head coach, Shane Beamer, provided an update on Nyck Harbor’s injury.
As I walked in here, the plan was to take him to the hospital. Just saw him in the training room with his dad. He landed on the sideline, and the guy came down on his chest. So I think they just want to, from a precautionary standpoint, make sure everything’s OK. So keep him in your prayers.

Ryan Clark bluntly called out the Texas trooper for pushing Nyck Harbor
Shortly after the trooper was relieved of his assignment, former NFL player and ESPN pundit Ryan Clark posted a video on Twitter condemning the trooper’s actions.
What happened today at Texas A&M was unacceptable. No young man should face that level of aggression outside of the field of play. Especially, not from someone there to protect. This officer had the audacity to do this in front of millions. What does he do when no one’s watching? It didn’t escalate today, but that doesn’t mean it never has or will.

Readers can be reassured that Clark will elaborate on this on The Pivot podcast. For South Carolina fans, the real disappointment is that their team lost the game, along with their already slim chance of making it to bowl season. The Gamecocks are 3-7, and only Arkansas, at 2-8, has a worse SEC record.
