Dan Hurley and UConn Huskies basketball defeated Creighton Bluejays 70-66 in Omaha on Tuesday night, despite having to deal with foul problems to both of its big men during the game. In addition to being UConn’s first victory in Omaha, the Huskies’ victory kept them in the running for the regular season conference championship.

Hurley was energized after the game. He threw a forceful gesture and statement toward the Creighton supporters. “Bye Bye! Two rings! Two rings,” on his route to the locker room, Hurley let out a scream. The UConn HC was being called “baldy” by the fans. This happened as he was making his way back to the locker room, which prompted this response.

Not only that, Hurley also received relentless heckling from the Creighton supporters during the game, who chanted “f**k Dan Hurley.” But Hurley got the final laugh, and as he was getting off the floor, he didn’t think twice about telling them so. This victory meant much more to Hurley and the UConn team because, before Tuesday, he had never defeated Creighton in Omaha.

Additionally, the taste of bitterness was still fresh in the Creighton fans’ minds on Tuesday night. This was because UConn already defeated Creighton in Storrs on January 18 earlier this season. Hurley also took a swipe at the Bluejays fans in the post-match press conference. Now, it remains to be seen how UConn will perform going forward in the regular season conference championship.

Dan Hurley has his say on ‘animated’ Creighton fans

Although the Huskies’ 2024–25 season hasn’t exactly gone as planned, they did improve to 17–7 with the victory. Notably, head coach Dan Hurley felt good after a significant conference victory. Hurley made a jab at Bluejays supporters. This was after the team’s 70-66 triumph, acknowledging that he wished more people had been present to watch the defeat.

I just wish there was more people still here. That was the only thing because when I’ve got my butt kicked here minus the COVID year which we would all like to forget, I think this is the only place we came to that actually had fans that year.

It’s important to note that, without the outstanding play of Liam McNeeley, the standout freshman, Hurley might not have been able to secure this victory. McNeeley finished the game with 28 points and 10 rebounds. This was one of the finest performances by a freshman in UConn Huskies’ history. That said, UConn will enter the NCAA Tournament with a lot of confidence as the reigning champions if they keep improving.
