With a solid victory over the Texas Longhorns, Will Howard has advanced the Ohio State Buckeyes to the College Football Playoff national title. As the cameramen and reporters awaited the quarterback, his gaze wandered, seeking something–or perhaps someone–else.

Posting 289 yards and a touchdown in the 28-14 feat against the No. 4 seeded Texas, Howard was truly the star of the game. While this brings media acclaim, it appears he wasn’t quite ready to embrace the praise just yet. Following the whistle, instead of rushing to fulfill his media obligations and celebrate with his team, the Ohio State quarterback went straight to find his counterpart, Quinn Ewers

Even though the camera crew and reporters were following him as he wandered on the field to find the Texas quarterback, he wasn’t ready for it. Although he found Texas quarterback Arch Manning on the way, he wasn’t who Howard was looking for.

Until he didn’t exchange the post-game pleasantries with Ewers, he refused to turn to the media for his interviews. This gesture resonated deeply with fans as well as commentators, as it showcased mutual respect between two young quarterbacks, who had just battled it out on the gridiron.

Howard’s commitment to finding Ewers before addressing the media demonstrated a remarkable display of sportsmanship. And the moment became more special because the Cotton Bowl marked the end of Ewers’ collegiate career, where he led Texas to two College Football Playoff appearances and led the SEC in passing touchdowns this season.

Will Howard’s non-throwing hand develops golf ball-sized swelling

Although the game concluded with a splashy victory for the Buckeyes, fans got scared for a moment when quarterback Howard’s hands appeared to have a huge knot during the game. The ESPN cameras captured the situation, zooming in on Howard’s non-throwing left hand, which displayed a large swelling resembling a golf ball over his middle knuckle.

They think he may have bumped into somebody’s face mask. Will is not complaining about it; he has not received any treatment on it or any ice on it. He doesn’t appear to be in a ton of pain, but I can tell you it is the size of a golf ball.

ESPN sideline reporter Holly Rowe stated

It happened after Texas defensive lineman Bill Norton fell on him on a first-and-10 in the second quarter, Howard’s injury was speculated to be caused by it, whereas some speculate it was caused by Texas defender Ethan Burke’s hit. However, neither the team nor the quarterback has provided any clarification on the matter.
