Two cities, roughly 210 miles apart, share one of the oldest rivalries in the NFL. The Green Bay Packers and the Chicago Bears have been battling it out for more than 100 years. It’s no surprise that when these two teams meet, fans make sure to let the other side know. The rivalry even surfaced today at the Democratic National Convention held in Chicago.

The situation came up when Wisconsin Governor Tony Evers and his delegates were called upon to vote their Presidential nominee. His introductory words were:

We're home of the Green Bay Packers.
Tony Evers said

His colleagues cheered him on and were ecstatic. To add to the taunt, Evers and his delegates were wearing Cheesehead hats, the official merchandise of the Packers. But the Chicago crowd let out a loud round of boos.

That was enough to make him speak louder into the microphone as he continued his introduction. This goes to show that nothing riles up Chicago fans as much as anyone trumping their longtime NFL rivals. That too, with the Governor rubbing it right in, fans had to let them know that this was their town and Packers fans are not welcome.

It shows that Chicago natives did not care if they were there to listen to Democrats talk about the upcoming elections and may also have nothing to do with football. But they unite when it comes to their hometown team. Ironically, the two teams will clash for the first time in the upcoming season, right after the elections.

Green Bay Packers vs. Chicago Bears will be exciting this season

That first game will be on November 17th at Chicago’s Soldier Field. Unlike last season, when both teams were questionable, this time it is different. Not only do both teams have solid quarterbacks, but both teams are primed to make the playoffs. Green Bay Packers just signed Jordan Love to a massive contract extension.

On the other hand, projections have No. 1 draft pick Caleb Williams as one of the best in the NFL. He also has an elite receiving core around him. This shows that the rivalry is actually about to restart this season. The Packers may have the lead in their head-to-head records, but the Chicago Bears believe their time has arrived.

If the response at the Democratic National Convention is anything to go by, Bears fans will be waiting. If either of them they play to their potential, it is possible that one of them will be rubbing their hands in glee and gloating about topping the other in the NFC North standings.
