Mumbai captain Prithvi Shaw continued his great run in the ongoing Vijay Hazare Trophy as he slammed a whirlwind century against Saurashtra. Shaw brought up his third century of the tournament as slammed 185* off 123 balls in the fourth quarterfinal. En route to his second 150+ score in the tournament, Shaw leapfrogged former Indian captain MS Dhoni and current skipper, Virat Kohli.

His 185 is the highest score by an Indian in a chase in List A cricket. Prior to this, Dhoni and Kohli held the record with their 183 against Sri Lanka and Pakistan respectively. Dhoni slammed 15 fours and ten sixes in his unbeaten 145-ball knock as India chased down 299 with ease.

On the other hand, Kohli’s 148 balls innings against arch-rivals Pakistan came in the Asia Cup. His best ODI score, which featured 22 fours and a six, helped India complete a steep chase of 330 with 13 balls to spare.

Chasing a big total of 285, Mumbai got off to a great start. Openers Shaw and Yashasvi Jaiswal stitched a mammoth 238-run to make set the stage for an easy win. Shaw was the aggressor of the two as he slammed 21 fours and seven maximums. His whirlwind century meant Mumbai made up for their no-show in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy by booking a semifinal berth in the Vijay Hazare trophy.

Earlier in the tournament, Shaw had played yet another record-breaking innings as he slammed 227 off 152 balls. The blitzkrieg against Puducherry which featured 31 fours and five sixes is the highest score for an Indian captain leading in 50-over List A cricket. He surpassed the legendary Virender Sehwag to achieve the milestone.

He also broke former South African batsman Graeme Pollock‘s (222) record for the highest score by a captain in List A cricket. Shaw’s 227 is also the highest individual score in the Vijay Hazare Trophy. The previous record was held by Sanju Samson (212).
