Minnesota Vikings head coach Kevin O’Connell moved the NFL Network and CBS Sports reporter Jamie Erdahl earlier with a sweet surprise during an appearance on Good Morning Football. O’Connell invited the reporter to sound the famous Gjallarhorn at U.S. Bank Stadium next month.
Jamie Erdahl will carry out the honor during the Vikings’ game against the Indianapolis Colts on November 3. Minnesota Vikings, sailing in exceptional form, are currently undefeated in the season, posting five out of five wins so far. Quarterback Sam Darnold took advantage of the now-or-never situation and continued his fiery streak.
Kevin O’Connell, who replaced Mike Zimmer in 2022, spoke highly of Erdahl, noting that she has a special place in the team’s building as a Minnesotan. He noted that Erdahl knows about the Vikings’ culture and the unique and bustling environment at the U.S. Bank Stadium.
As O’Connell explained why he chose her for the special role, Erdahl, visibly shocked, covered her mouth with both hands, clearly unable to hide her surprise. Overcome with emotions, Erdahl started to tear up and let out a mix of laughter and tears before expressing her heartfelt gratitude. She graciously accepted the honor while her fellow panelists applauded and consoled her as she tried to hold back her tears.

Erdahl grew up in Bloomington, 21 minutes away from the stadium in Hennepin County. Erdahl did her high school in Breck, a private institution in Golden Valley, Minnesota, and played collegiate basketball for St Olaf College.
The 35-year-old transferred to American University where she pursued her journalism and broadcasting degree. Erdahl joined CBS in 2014, marking her debut on Good Morning Football (GMFB) in 2022.
Jamie Erdahl joins the ranks of Minnesota Vikings legends, celebrities, and Olympians
The Minnesota Vikings started the tradition of blowing the Gjallarhorn in 2007 when legendary original Vikings Mascot Hub Meeds sounded the Gjallarhorn on Aug. 10, 2007.
The creator of the original Gjallarhorn, T.J. Johnson, became the second person to sound it (Aug. 30, 2007). Since then, every home game starts with either an honorary player, celebrity, military member, or Olympian sounding the horn.
Jamie Erdahl will join an elite list on November 3 when she sounds the horn and leads the chants. Amongst the people from the media industry, actors Josh Duhamel, Hafþór Björnsson, and singer Nicholas David have previously been honored with the distinction.
The history of the Gjallarhorn stems from Norse mythology, where blowing the Gjallarhorn indicated that the gods are arriving or the battle is about to start.
The Minnesota Vikings have two games before the Colts rivalry match. They will play the Detroit Lions at home on Sunday afternoon and the Los Angeles Rams next week.
