Minnesota Vikings finally offered their star wide receiver his desired deal and it’s exactly how everyone expected– mind-blowing $140 million. The wide receiver market, which Tyreek Hill dominated, has reset its course and raised the stakes to the roof. 

Sources close to Ian Rapoport and Tom Pelissero revealed the Vikings signed Justin Jefferson in a four-year deal worth $140 million, making his average annual salary $35 million. This deal makes Jefferson the highest-paid non-quarterback in the NFL. 

One of the best decisions made by the Vikings during the NFL Drafts was in 2020 when they selected the former LSU Tigers standout as the first-round pick. In his debut season with them, he stunned everyone by recording 1,400 receiving yards. Since then, his stats have only enhanced: 1,616 yards in 2021-22 and his career-best 1,809 yards in 2022-23.

Not much to anyone’s surprise, Jefferson emerged as the best wide receiver for the Vikings and when the time came to reward him, the franchise didn’t hesitate. He will receive a $110 million guaranteed, including $88.743 million -at the time of signing which is notably the highest signing figure given to a non-QB in the history of the NFL. 

In the 60 games Jefferson played for the Vikings, he recorded 5,899 yards on 392 receptions and 30 touchdowns. As the Vikings are entering the 2024 season with a rookie in the lead, Jefferson is their safety blanket which they desperately need, and in such case, the trade thoughts were the last thing on their minds.

As happy as Jefferson would have been upon receiving the mammoth deal from the Vikings, fans are reciprocating it immensely. They celebrated the new contract of the two-time Pro Bowler, which made him the highest-paid non-quarterback and reset the market altogether.
