Tokyo Olympics: Viktor Axelsen vs Chen Long preview, prediction and live stream
Viktor Axelsen vs Chen Long
Denmark’s Viktor Axelsen is set to cross swords with China’s Chen Long in the Men’s Singles Badminton final in the Tokyo Olympics on Monday, August 2. The match is set to take place at the Musashino Forest Sport Plaza BDM Court 1. In the BWF World Rankings, while Axelsen is placed second, Long is the sixth-ranked shuttler.
Viktor Axelsen vs Chen Long: Preview
Axelsen has done exceptionally in the ongoing Tokyo Olympics. In all the five matches thus far from July 24, he has won in straight sets. Moreover, in all the games, the 27-year-old shuttler dominated thoroughly in the second set after having to fight a wee bit in the first.
In the semi-final on Sunday, August 1, Axelsen halted Kevin Cordon’s dream run in the tournament. He won the game 21-18, 21-11 and ensured at least a silver medal for himself. He was a bronze medallist in Rio back in 2016 and a lot is expected of him in the grand finale.
Long, on the other hand, started his Tokyo Olympics sojourn with a couple of resounding wins in Group N over Estonia’s Raul Must Spain’s Pablo Abian. However, since then, the 32-year-old shuttler has had to struggle, though he managed victories in those matches.
He lost the set each against Lee Zi Jia from Malaysia and Taiwan’s Chou Tien-chen. Nevertheless, the veteran was back to his very best in the semi-final against Indonesia’s Anthony Sinisuka Ginting. He won the game 21-16, 21-11 to set up a clash with Axelsen for glory.
Viktor Axelsen vs Chen Long: Head-to-Head
In their last six meetings, Long has won four times. But when the two players last met back in January 2020 during the quarter-final of the Malaysia Masters, Axelsen won 21-11, 12-21, 22-20.
Viktor Axelsen vs Chen Long: Prediction
Coming into this game, Long has dropped two sets and Axelsen is yet to lose any. Hence, the latter will go into the game with a slight advantage.
