Bayern Munich have found it extremely difficult to keep their manager situation in check ever since they fired Julian Nagelsmann for Thomas Tuchel. As the management strugglers to find a replacement for Tuchel, many were surprised to learn that Vincent Kompany is the frontrunner to take charge of the dugout.

The former Manchester City man saw his side fall prey to relegation after finishing 19th in the Premier League. His side managed to accumulate just 24 points from 38 games. Many found it surprising that Bayern would go for a ‘failed’ Premier League manager who got relegated recently as well.

As for Bayern, what followed this season was a complete undoing of what the club have been accustomed to in the past decade or so.

To begin with, the Bavarians lost out on the Bundesliga title to Bayer Leverkusen, were eliminated in the Champions League semi-final to Real Madrid and also got knocked out in the DFB-Pokal to end the season trophyless.

Fans laugh at Bayern Munich after they sign Vincent Kompany

Over the years, Bayern Munich have constantly been a force to reckon with in the sport. The Bavarians have only been a shadow of their former selves, going trophyless for the first time in over 12 years. As Thomas Tuchel departs the club after a rather disappointing stint, it is surprising to learn that no manager has accepted the Bayern job till now.

A number of notable figures have said ‘no’ to Bayern, even though being in charge of their dugout is nothing less than a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity. To begin with, former Bayern star Xabi Alonso was quick to turn down the Bayern job, stating that he’ll continue at Leverkusen for at least one more season. Former managers Julian Nagelsmann and Ralf Rangnick have also turned down the opportunity to make a return to the club.

A fan commented that later target Kompany will be out of the club in less than a season. Another laughed at how maybe he’ll be the next target, given Bayern are knocking on ‘everyone’s’ door. Some laughed at Bayern’s fall from grace. Many couldn’t even process how Bayern and Burnley could even end up in the same sentence.
