The 2024 Ballon d’Or will be announced on the 28th of October at the Theatre du Chatelet. The 68th edition of the award will either be taken home by Real Madrid’s Vinicius Jr. or Manchester City midfielder Rodri.
While both players played a crucial role in their side’s journeys to the win the UEFA Champions League and UEFA Euro respectively, fans are still divided as to who deserves the award. Recently, Manchester City goalkeeper Ederson sparked discussion on social media when he shared his take on who really ‘deserved’ the award.
The Brazilian goalkeeper previously made headlines when he was linked with a move away from the Cityzens. Even though the move to the Saudi Pro League failed to materialize, the keeper is still an important part of Pep Guardiola‘s squad.
However, the emergence of Stefan Ortega in the squad has sidelined the player’s role as a primary choice.
Potential Rodri replacement doesn’t think too much about Man City links
With star midfielder Rodri out for the remainder of the season with an ACL injury, Manchester City have begun their search for a potential replacement. With the January transfer window fast approaching, Liverpool target Martin Zubimendi has been named as the primary target. However, Italian midfielder Samuele Ricci has also been named as a candidate for the role.
However, the 23-year-old Torino midfielder has made sure to not get too ahead of himself. The youngster recently spoke to the press as he didn’t make too much of the links to City.
The player also admitted to referring to Rodri and his style of play to be more aware of his surroundings amidst links to the club. Manchester City are currently second in the Premier League while Samuele Ricci and Torino find themselves in seventh in Serie A. Ricci’s contract with the club runs until 2026.
