The second wave of the COVID-19 pandemic has been wreaking havoc in India and showing no signs of stopping. In excess of 3 lakh and even 4 lakh cases are being reported each day and the situation in the country is one of uncertainty and despair. In these testing times, it has been the noble and tireless acts of the frontline workers as well as other contributors which have helped prevent larger damage.
In that vein, sportspersons and cricketers have also been contributing for the cause of COVID-19 relief. During the now-suspended Indian Premier League (IPL 2021), Australian cricketer Pat Cummins contributed USD 50,000 and encouraged others to follow suit. Like he said, many others donated soon after with the likes of Shreevats Goswami, Sheldon Jackson, Jaydev Unadkat, Nicholas Pooran, Shikhar Dhawan, Ajinkya Rahane, Brett Lee among others.
Indian skipper Virat Kohli too contributed a sum of Rs. 2 crore along with his wife Anushka Sharma and the couple started a fundraiser on Ketto where they invited contributions from around the world for COVID-19 relief. The fundraiser has been doing well and there have been donations from sportspersons like Yuzvendra Chahal in the same as well.
