Virat Kohli and Saurav Ganguly issued notices for promoting fantasy league apps

The Madurai bench of Madras high court on Tuesday issued notices to Virat Kohli, BCCI president Sourav Ganguly, actors Prakash Raj, Tamanna, Rana and Sudip Khan for their involvement in fantasy league apps advertisements.
The bench consisted of N Kirubakaran and B Pugalendhi. The notices have been issued to these celebrities as well as other such apps. The case was filed by an advocate Mohammed Rizvi.
“The apps are in the name of IPL teams such as Chennai Super Kings, Rajasthan Royals and some apps are also in the name of state’s names. Are these teams playing on behalf of the state,” he asked the bench.
The death of some youths by suicide after losing money by playing matches in such apps prompted the advocate to file the case. The Madurai bench has accused the owners of these apps for using celebrities to earn crores. All the above mentioned names need to respond to the notice by November 19th.
Notice over promoting Fantasy League apps, not the first time for Kohli

This is not the first time, the Indian Mens cricket team captain, Virat Kohli has been issued a notice to for advertising fantasy league apps. Back in August, a Chennai based lawyer had filed a similar case. He sought a ban on online gambling and asked for the arrest of celebrities endorsing them.
He said that addiction to online gambling is more dangerous to society and violates Article 21 of the Indian Constitution as it it infringes the right to life. This news comes right after Mobile Premier League (MPL) was selected as the apparel sponsor for the Indian Cricket Team for a period of three years.
Although Puma and Adidas had picked up the bid papers for apparel sponsorship, they didn’t fill the bid as they felt the deal needed to be reduced to one third from the original bid. Nike previously was the apparel sponsor for five years and paid ₹370 crore from 2016 to 2020 with a ₹30 crore royalty.
