Veteran Indian batsman Virat Kohli is on his way to shatter several records, in the ongoing ICC Champions Trophy. The former Indian captain has showcased his qualities throughout the years. Now, the 36-year-old batter is just 129 runs short of creating Champions Trophy history.

Virat Kohli‘s match-winning century against Pakistan guided India to its third-straight Champions Trophy semi-final. This comes after having previously made it into the last four during the 2013 and 2017 editions. While he failed to score many runs against New Zealand, India managed to beat the Kiwis by 44 runs. Following the win, the Blues will now face off against Australia in the first semi-final.

Kohli has been on a record-breaking spree after he most recently became the fastest batter to breach the milestone of 14,000 ODI runs. He made it to the achievement in just 287 innings, beating previous records held by Indian cricketing legend Sachin Tendulkar and Sri Lankan great Kumar Sangakkara. Against New Zealand, Kohli also made his 300th One-Day international appearance for the Indian team.

Should he score 129 runs against Australia in the semi-final, the 36-year-old would create Champions Trophy history. He would become the tournament’s leading run-scorer of all-time, breaking former West Indian batter Chris Gayle‘s existing record of 791 runs. Kohli is sixth on the list with 662 runs in 16 Champions Trophy matches, while skipper Rohit Sharma remains in the 12th position.

Additionally, Virat Kohli could also become India’s leading run-scorer in the Champions Trophy. With just three more runs, he would overtake former Indian skipper Sourav Ganguly‘s tally of 665 runs. He is also just 39 runs short of Shikhar Dhawan‘s tally of 701 runs.

Moreover, he added that Kohli and Sharma could retire at the end of the tournament, with a trophy win.
