The Indian Premier League (IPL) season began today and the fans watching from the comfort of their homes were treated to an excellent opening match between defending champions Mumbai Indians (MI) and Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai. The match saw both sides trading blows with some excellent batting in patches and some assured bowling as well.
With regard to RCB, the side had made a plethora of changes at the auction for the IPL as they released a huge chunk of their players. They debuted four of their new acquisitions in Glenn Maxwell, Dan Christian, Kyle Jamieson and Rajat Patidar. MI too decided to hand debuts to Chris Lynn due to Quinton de Kock‘s unavailability while also picking young South African pacer Marco Jansen.

Glenn Maxwell had a disappointing IPL season last year as he failed to come good for Kings XI Punjab (KXIP). Bought by RCB for a sum of Rs. 14.25 crores, the Aussie all-rounder proved his worth with some scintillating hitting in the game against Mumbai Indians. The right-handed batsman started going in his innings with a trademark switch-hit before he only grew in confidence with each delivery.
The highlight of his knock came in the 11th over bowled by Krunal Pandya as he launched one into the night sky for a humongous 100 meter six. Virat Kohli who was watching from the non-striker’s end was visibly stunned and overjoyed at the six as he reacted with shock and awe.
