For the first time since 2016, Indian captain Virat Kohli slipped out of the top 3 rankings in the ICC Test rankings. He was dethroned by Australia’s Marnus Labuschagne who had an exceptional series against India. The Queenslander scored runs in excess of 400 in the recently concluded Border Gavaskar Trophy, which includes a century at the Gabba.

Among Indians, Cheteshwar Pujara and Ajinkya Rahane rose a place each in the latest rankings. Pujara played a gritty knock of 56 to set up a historic win for India as they breached the Aussie fortress in Brisbane. Rahane also played a handy knock in the final Test to rise to eighth place. The Mumbai batter led from the front as he captained India to a memorable Test series win Down Under.

After being dropped from the white ball sides for the Australia tour, Rishabh Pant bounced back with two scintillating knocks in all whites. Pant played a counterattacking knock of 97 in Sydney to help his side secure a memorable draw. He followed up the innings with an unbeaten 89 to take India over the line at the Gabba. These crucial knocks saw the Delhi gloveman to rise to 13th place to become the best-ranked wicketkeeper.

Among other changes, New Zealand’s Henry Nicholls reaped the results of a great series against Pakistan as he rose a place. Meanwhile, Pakistan skipper Babar Azam lost a place after a no show in the first Test against South Africa. English all-rounder Ben Stokes lost two places after missing the two-game Test series against Sri Lanka. Stokes will turn up in the Test series against India which starts February 5. And has already started training for the same in Chennai.
