Virat Kohli returned back to form by registering his 81st international century at the Optus Stadium in Perth in the first of the five-match Test series in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024/25. Kohli last scored a century in the ODI World Cup 2023 semi-final against New Zealand and also has been lacking runs in the longest format of the game. He thanked his wife, Anushka Sharma, who was present in the stadium when he smashed his 30th Test ton.
Kohli stated that his wife has always stayed by his side and has always supported him in his tough times. He added that Anushka knows what’s going with him when he is not among the runs.
Kohli has scored 9,145 runs in 203 Test innings at an average of 48.13 with 30 centuries and 31 half-centuries. He had been struggling in the longest format of the game for quite some time and had a poor outing in the home series against New Zealand, which India lost 3-0. His place in the Test side was being questioned and he has answered back his critics as always.
Team India are in the driver’s seat in the first Test match in Perth
Team India declared the second innings at 487 runs and set a target of 534 runs for the Australians to chase. Yashasvi Jaiswal scored 161 runs, KL Rahul scored 77 runs, Washington Sundar scored 29 runs and Nitish Kumar Reddy remained not-out on 8.
Meanwhile, India have always picked up three wickets of the Australians before the end of Day 3. Australia are 12-3, with Jasprit Bumrah picking up two wickets and Mohammed Siraj picking up one wicket.
The Kangaroos have a big task in hand as the wicket has started showing variable bounce due to the widening of the cracks on the wicket.
