Virat Kohli has been one of the fittest athletes for Team India and yet a new record that has come to light has been a shocker for the fans to digest. Since the 2019 World Cup, Kohli leads the list of the fielder with the most dropped catches in international cricket.

Sadly, enough, it somehow chimes bigger for the moment considering the fact that against Afghanistan, he dropped a regulation take of Ibrahim Zadran at point. A list released on X (formerly known as Twitter) states that Virat Kohli has dropped 23 catches in the international circuit since 2019 and this is an alarming number for the Indian run-machine.

There are other bigger names in the list as well but then the gap between Kohli and the others is glaring enough. The second name on the list is that of Rishabh Pant who has dropped 14 catches and that too with a year and half of hiatus. Other significant names on the list features the likes of Shreyas Iyer with 12 drops, Rohit Sharma with 11 drops and Axar Patel with nine drops.

A few fans have pointed out that Kohli’s change in fielding position has been a major reason for him to miss out on regulation takes. The one that he dropped of Zadran was at point but one would usually see him fielding either at mid-off, at cover or possibly on the fence.

But then on the cricket pitch, given the fact that he is the finest fielder of his side, he will always need to be alert and be on his toes. But somehow things haven’t been on song in terms of catches for VK.

Virat Kohli has struggled in the 2024 T20 World Cup

Virat Kohli’s numbers with the bat have been questionable too in the T20 World Cup. His highest score in the tournament has been 24 which came in the last match against Afghanistan. Trying to accelerate the innings, he wanted to take Rashid Khan for a toss to long-off and surprisingly enough he found the fielder.

Before the World Cup started, things looked bleak for Kohli when talks of selection continued but then the hard-hitting run-machine proved everyone wrong in the IPL, snatching the Orange Cap with panache and pomp, a performance that also earned him the call-up for the T20 World Cup squad.
