Coming after a strong performance against the New York Yankees, Vladimir Guerrero Jr. and the Toronto Blue Jays struggled in Game 1 of the American League Championship Series (ALCS) against the Seattle Mariners. This sparked some wild reactions from fans on social media.

The 5-time MLB All-Star was in hot form against the Yankees in the American League Division Series (ALDS). With 3 home runs, including his team’s first ever grand slam in postseason history, Guerrero Jr. went 9-for-17 in the 4 games against the Bronx Bombers.

The Blue Jays would make light work of their division rivals and outscored them 34-19 to beat them 3-1 in the best-of-five series. As for the Mariners, they had to do things the hard way to reach the ALCS.

On Friday night, the Mariners and the Detroit Tigers took part in an all-time classic game. The Mariners struck first, then found themselves 2-1 down through a Kerry Carpenter 2-run home run. A single from Leo Rivas then tied the game at 2-2 in the 7th inning.

The two bullpens would engage in a pitching duel as the game stretched to 15 innings. In the bottom of the 15th inning, the Mariners walked off the Tigers through a single from Jorge Polanco.

In less than 48 hours, they were back in action. The Blue Jays, meanwhile, had a few days off to prepare for this game.

The Blue Jays started in the most perfect way, as George Springer homered on the very first pitch of Bryce Miller to give them a 1-0 lead. The visitors leveled the game in the 6th inning with a home run from 2025 AL MVP award frontrunner Cal Raleigh.

Polanco, who was the hero in Game 5, would then hit an RBI single to turn the game around. His 2nd RBI of the night in the 8th inning gave his team a 3-1 lead. The hosts were unable to come back this time around and lost Game 1.

Vladimir Guerrero Jr., who has been the offensive hero for the Blue Jays, went 0-for-4 in this game. He would catch some flak regarding this performance on social media.

The fierce offense of the Blue Jays cooled down in this game. Guerrero Jr., who had been leading the line, struggled to make a difference in this showdown.

The Blue Jays managed just 2 hits in the entire game. After the home run from Springer on the first pitch, their only other hit of the game came in the 2nd inning through Anthony Santander.

David Ortiz believes 3 days off affected Vladimir Guerrero Jr. and the Toronto Blue Jays in ALCS Game 1

The Toronto Blue Jays’ offense was unable to deliver the type of performance they had done all year in Game 1 of the ALCS against the Seattle Mariners. David Ortiz believes that the 3-days off affected Vladimir Guerrero Jr. and his teammates.

The Blue Jays had 50 hits in the ALDS against the Yankees. After a 3-day break, they managed to grab just 2 hits against a team that had played a 15-inning game on Friday. While speaking on Fox Sports, Ortiz expressed that this 3-day break cut off the rhythm of the Canadian team.

I don’t know if this ever happened to you guys when you guys were still playing, but when I was swinging the bat hot, I don’t want no day off. Day off kind of cut my rhythm for a second, and then I had to catch up. It seems like the Blue Jays tonight, those three days off kind of affected them.

David Ortiz said on Fox Sports

Game 2 of this series will take place on Monday night. The Blue Jays would be hoping to bounce back from the disappointments of Game 1 and hope to take a positive result before the series shifts to Seattle.
