It was the story of “so close, yet so far” for the Toronto Blue Jays in the 2025 World Series. The American League side suffered a crushing Game 7 loss against the Los Angeles Dodgers on Saturday. Team superstar Vladimir Guerrero Jr. was left devastated and in tears in the Blue Jays dugout.
He and his team landed the opening blow in this game. A 3-run home run from Bo Bichette against Shohei Ohtani in the bottom of the 3rd inning put them 3-0 up.
The Dodgers pulled one run back through a sacrifice fly from Teoscar Hernandez. In the top of the 6th inning, another sacrifice fly, this time from Tommy Edman made it a 3-2 game.
The Blue Jays established a 2-run lead in the next frame. A double from Andres Gimenez put them 4-2 up and in a commanding position.
However, two solo home runs, one from Max Muncy in the 8th and the other from Miguel Rojas in the 9th inning, saw the Dodgers tie the game at 4-4. In the bottom of the 9th inning, the Blue Jays squandered the chance of walking it off while having the bases loaded and one out.
The Blue Jays got their heart broken in the 11th inning. A third solo home run of the game for the Dodgers from Will Smith put them 5-4 up. Despite a double from Vladimir Guerrero Jr. in the bottom of the 11th inning, the Canadian outfit was unable to get back on terms and lost the game and the World Series.

Had the Blue Jays won, Guerrero Jr. would have likely been named the MVP of the World Series. That honor went to Yoshinobu Yamamoto, who came out from the bench in the 9th inning and pitched 2.2 scoreless innings on zero days’ rest.

This was the Blue Jays’ first appearance in the World Series since 1993. The wait for the third World Series title will now stretch into another year.
As for the Dodgers, they are now the first team since the New York Yankees in 2000 to go back-to-back as World Series champions. It is their 9th title and is the first time where they have successfully defended their crown.
