While the 2025 season is yet to start, the rumors for the next offseason have already begun. After failing to reach a contract extension, Vladimir Guerrero Jr. will become a free agent after the 2025 season. In the midst of his rumored $500 million move, the Toronto Blue Jays star has explained the reason behind his grudge against the New York Yankees.
In the past, Guerrero Jr. has not been shy of making his feelings known against the Yankees. In 2023, he cited family reasons and vowed to never play for the Bronx Bombers. He even claimed that this was something that he would not change.
On Friday, MLB insider Jon Heyman appeared on the “Baseball Insiders Podcast’. During this, he claimed that Guerrero Jr. could land a contract worth more than $500 million. The next day, he would speak with the 4-time All-Star.
During this conversation with Heyman, Guerrero Jr. recalled an incident in the past with the Yankees that stuck with him. Apart from this, the Yankees’ decision to snub his father Vladimir Guerrero Sr. in 2003 also played a part in his grudge against the 27-time World Series winner.
When I was a child with my dad, and like all [players’] kids I was in front of the dugout, and somebody from the Yankees told my dad that ‘You gotta take your kid [inside]. You can’t be on the field. I felt bad. And it stood with me.

Despite this, Vladimir Guerrero Jr. is ready to sit down with the Yankees and have a word regarding the future. The 25-year-old said that he will be open to all 30 teams once his contract with the Toronto Blue Jays expires.
If I go to free agency, every team — all 30 teams — are going to have the opportunity to sit down with [me], to talk to me. I’m OK with everything. It’s in the past.

Vladimir Guerrero Jr. ready to move on from past differences with New York Yankees
It is no secret that Vladimir Guerrero Jr. does not like the New York Yankees. He has been highly critical of them and has celebrated wildly against them in the past. However, with him entering free agency at the end of the 2025 season, there are reports linking to a move to the Bronx. It seems the first baseman is ready to move on from this past differences with the team.

In the interview with Jon Heyman, the first baseman did admit that. On top of that, one of his social media activities recently have also suggested that.
On Instagram, he would like a post from a Yankees new page. The post was of him photoshopped in the pinstripes of the Yankees. The post was about whether the Canadian-Dominican player could ever play for the Yankees in the future.

It remains to be seen what decision he will eventually make though. Before his admission about the New York Yankees, he claimed that he wanted to stay as a Blue Jay for the rest of his career.
Last season, Guerrero Jr. once again showed off his incredible batting prowess. He hit 30 home runs and drove in 103 runs while batting with an average of .323. This year, he will once again hope for a similar performance as the spotlight will be on him.
