Vladimir Guerrero Jr. sparked a buzz on social media on Thursday. The Toronto Blue Jays star dropped a cheeky comment under an Instagram post of free agent Kyle Tucker, which further sparked rumors regarding the 4-time All-Star.
The Blue Jays suffered a massive heartbreak at the end of the season. The American League side, who finished bottom of the standings in 2024, slipped up on the final hurdle and suffered a 5-4 extra innings loss in Game 7 of the 2025 World Series against the Los Angeles Dodgers.
The team were in command at one stage and led their opponents 3-0 following a 3-run home run from Bo Bichette of Shohei Ohtani. They were, however, unable to hold on to their lead and had close calls going against them in the dying moments.
As they aim to make a deep postseason run again next season, the team has been active in the offseason. A few days ago, they signed starting pitcher Dylan Cease on a 7-year, $210 million deal. On Thursday, the team then announced the signing of KBO MVP Cody Ponce on a 3-year, $30 million deal.
Tucker, however, remains the biggest name that they have linked with in this offseason. A few days ago, the Canadian outfit hosted the former Houston Astros star at their Player Development Complex (PDC) in Florida.
This is so far the only confirmed meeting of Tucker with a team. He has been linked with several other teams including the Dodgers, who beat the Blue Jays in the 2025 World Series.
On Wednesday, Tucker would make a post on his Instagram account. The 28-year-old would post an edited video of him working out in a gym with the caption “Full throttle” and added a fire emoji.
Guerrero Jr. would then make things interesting. The 5-time MLB All-Star would drop a simple eye emoji reaction, which generated a massive buzz on social media.

Tucker did have an impressive season with the Chicago Cubs in 2025. The right fielder hit 22 home runs and had 73 RBIs in 136 games while batting with a .266 average.
The Cubs, meanwhile, did clinch a playoff berth last year following a 92-70 record. After eliminating the San Diego Padres in the best-of-three Wild Card Series, they took on their NL Central division rivals, the Milwaukee Brewers, in the National League Division Series (NLDS).
After going 2-0 down, the team fought back and enforced Game 5 following a 6-0 win in Game 4. They ended up losing Game 5 by a 3-1 score and suffered elimination. The solo home run in Game 4 was the only RBI Kyle Tucker contributed in the postseason.
Kyle Tucker unlikely to get long-term deal with Dodgers
Kyle Tucker has seen his name being linked with several teams in the past few weeks. One of them is the Los Angeles Dodgers, who are trying to strengthen their team even further as they aim for a 3-peat next year. As per recent reports, the team is unlikely to offer him a long-term deal.

Recently, the Dodgers added Edwin Diaz to their bullpen. The LA-based side roped in the 3-time All-Star on a 3-year, $69 million deal from free agency.
While the team is willing to pay him and have him on a high Annual Average Value (AAV), they are unlikely to offer him a 6-7 year deal, according to The Athletic’s Ken Rosenthal and Katie Woo. The team would likely offer him a 3-4 year contract, something the Boston Red Sox did last year with Alex Bregman (3-year, $120 million deal).
Los Angeles is unlikely to offer Tucker a six- or seven-year deal, according to a person briefed on the team’s plans. The club, however, would entertain a shorter three-to-four-year deal with a high annual average value.

This pursuit of the Dodgers of Kyle Tucker has drawn comparison to their attempts to sign Bryce Harper in 2019. The then-Washington Nationals star had insisted on a long-term deal, which the Dodgers were unwilling to offer. In the end, Harper joined the Philadelphia Phillies on a 13-year, $330 million deal.
Tucker also wants a long-term deal. At the moment, the Toronto Blue Jays remain as heavy favorites to land him. Time will reveal where the 2022 World Series Champion will end up in 2026.
