Vladimir Guerrero Jr. and the Toronto Blue Jays picked up a much-needed win on Wednesday. The AL East champions dominated the Seattle Mariners and crushed 5 home runs to claim a 13-4 win in Game 3 of the American League Championship Series (ALCS). After the game, Guerrero Jr. sent a powerful message to his team and their fans.
The 26-year-old has been the superstar of the team. In the American League Division Series (ALDS) against the New York Yankees, he went 9-for-17 in the 4 games and slammed 3 home runs. One of them was his team’s first-ever grand slam in postseason history.
After a fierce performance against the Yankees, the bats of Guerrero Jr. and his teammates went cold in Games 1 and 2 of the ALCS against the Mariners. In Game 1, they managed just 2 hits with the first coming on the very first pitch of the 1st inning.
Guerrero Jr. would go hitless in both of these games. Him going 0-for-7 led to several trolls and sparked some concern among the Blue Jays fanbase. In Game 3, the first baseman proved that form is temporary and class is permanent.
He first managed to beat out the throw for an infield single before hitting a double. A solo home run in the top of the 5th inning and a double in the top of the 8th inning saw him go 4-for-4.
He could have gone for the triple in the 8th inning, but decided to stay at 2nd. Had he completed the triple, it would have been just the 2nd cycle in postseason history.

The Blue Jays came back from 2-0 down through a Julio Rodriguez blast and emerged as 13-4 winners. Home runs from Andres Gimenez, George Springer, Vladimir Guerrero Jr., Alejandro Kirk, and Addison Barger led them to victory.
Following the game, Guerrero Jr. expressed that the team believes in each other and that they were taking every game pitch by pitch.
We believe in us, we know what kind of team we are. To us, it’s one day at a time and one pitch at a time
Vladimir Guerrero Jr. told Jon Morosi of MLB Network

In MLB best-of-seven postseason history, teams that have won Game 3 after losing the first two games have won 14 out of the 53 times. The Blue Jays will need to pick up at least one more win in Seattle to force the issue back to Toronto.
Derek Jeter gives hilarious advice to Vladimir Guerrero Jr. as 1st baseman ties franchise record with 4th postseason home run
With his team needing a result, Vladimir Guerrero Jr. stepped up. The 2023 Home Run Derby champion went 4-for-4 and was a triple shy of the cycle. After the game, Derek Jeter would give him some hilarious advice.

In the long history of MLB, there have been 348 cycles. However, in postseason history, only one player has managed to accomplish this feat.
Brock Holt of the Boston Red Sox hit for the cycle (hitting a single, double, triple and a home run). He did this in Game 3 of the ALDS against the New York Yankees. The Red Sox went on to win that game 16-1 enroute to winning the World Series.
Guerrero Jr. had a chance to join him. He would hit a shot in the gap and dash quickly. However, he stopped at 2nd base after his coach told him so. While speaking with Jeter on the Fox Sports postgame show, he received a hilarious advice from the former Yankees captain.
Next time blink and tell him you didn’t see him.

His home run in the 5th inning was his 4th of the 2025 postseason. He is now tied with Jose Bautista for the most home runs hit by a Blue Jays star in a postseason. The former Blue Jays star hit 4 home runs in the 2015 postseason.

The ALCS action will continue on Thursday. The Blue Jays have named veteran Max Scherzer as the starter in Game 4. It remains to be seen how this decision works out.
