After returning from his second Tommy John surgery, Walker Buehler had a difficult time in the regular season. The 30-year-old right-handed pitcher went 1-6 with a 5.38 ERA in the 2024 season.

However, in the postseason, he has once again shown his true form. During a crucial Game 3 of the World Series, Buehler kept the New York Yankees‘ players in control and dominated them from the pitching mound.

In a jam-packed Yankee Stadium in New York, Buehler remained calm and composed. Through his first two innings, he picked out four strikeouts while leaving the Yankees’ hitters chasing air.

Buehler eventually wrapped up his day after throwing five scoreless innings. He gave up just two hits (both of which came in the fourth inning), two walks, and collected five strikeouts to put his team in a commanding position.

He exited the game with his side leading 3-0. As the Dodgers went on to pick up another 4-2 win, he was awarded the win in this match. They are now one victory away from their eighth World Series crown.

Fan reactions to Walker Buehler’s Game 3 performance against the Yankees

Walker Buehler has established himself as a firm Game 3 starter. In all three postseason series this year, the American international had started Game 3. Coincidentally, this was his third Game 3 start in the World Series, having previously done so in 2018 against the Boston Red Sox and in 2020 against the Tampa Bay Rays.

In this Game 3, Buehler threw 76 pitches in a five-inning effort. He picked up six swinging strikes, the most he has had since 2021. This strong performance from him earned huge praise from the fans on social media.

Several fans on X seemed stunned by this outing from Buehler. One excited fan called him by his nickname of “Buetane” and wrote, “Buetane is back“. Another fan claimed that the team must “re-sign” him once his contract expires.

Check out that and some reactions from X below:

Following this performance from him, the Los Angeles Dodgers bullpen closed out the game. Though Michael Kopech conceded a two-run home run in the bottom of the ninth inning, the visitors held onto the lead and took a giant step to sweep their opponents.

The Yankees now have a huge task in hand. Only once in MLB history has a team overturned a 3-0 deficit. Another defeat on Tuesday night for the Yanks could see the MLB 2024 season come to an end as the Dodgers would sweep their opponents and win the World Series.
