Los Angeles Dodgers pitcher Walker Buehler, current free agent, admitted he lied during the World Series Game 5 in a sit-down with Mookie Betts. He talked about how he forced his way out of the bullpen to close Game 5 against the New York Yankees.

Throughout the 2024 season, and even before, Buehler struggled through injury woes. However, his stance as the last person on the mound in World Series Game 5 turned him into LA’s hero. He drove home his teammates and successfully shut down the Bronx Bombers in the Fall Classic.

He started off Game 3 by throwing five scoreless innings and, in Game 5, closed and sealed off the team’s victory after overcoming the 5-0 deficit. During the final game, Walker Buehler did not go through his usual practice routine, but informed the team he would be available if needed.

Well, the team indeed needed him in the last run and Buehler outperformed himself once again on the big stage. While practicing in the bullpen before going to the mound is natural for pitchers, he did not go through it, but still winged it with perfection.

I lied to Mark, too. Mark called down and said, ‘What the f*** are you doing down there?’ I said, ‘I told y’all I’ll be down here.’ He goes, ‘Have you thrown?’ I said, ‘Yeah, I’m fine.’ … I haven’t touched the ball [since Game 3].

He even turned to his teammates, Brent Honeywell and Joe Kelly, to confirm if his swing looked “crispy” enough, and it did. Manager Dave Roberts said that he put him out on the mound as he was willing to fight for the team like others.

Chris Taylor on how momentum shifted in Game 5 leading to LA’s win

During their discussion with Mookie Betts on the World Series win, utility player Chris Taylor spoke on what the team actually thought of the NY Yankees. He said that they were not at all tensed as they felt “the energy shift in the stadium” as if the fans were almost “waiting for something bad to happen.”

It did happen as the Yankees lost their 5-0 lead in Game 5 of the World Series. Their blunder gave the LA Dodgers the boost they needed to win the Championship game with a 7-6 record.

Everybody saw it. We’re all thinking it: (The Yankees) kind of s*** down their leg.

The Yankees gave up both Game 1 and Game 5 leads, unfortunately leading to their demise. The Dodgers were strategic enough to exploit their rival’s weakness to win the World Series.

When asked if there was any team they had trouble dealing with prior to WS, Mookie Betts noted it was the San Diego Padres. He believes the atmosphere and the team itself challenged them both on the field mentally and physically than any other rivals.

With the World Series win already in their pockets, the team is rebuilding itself prior to spring training. However, Walker Buehler and a couple more pitchers are still un-signed and in free-agency waters. They’ll have to make a decision soon on whom to add and whom to let go.
