There is an interesting observation to be made across basketball and football in particular. A section of the ‘old-heads’ or veterans that played the games a decade or earlier tend to diminish the achievements of the currently active players.

Former NFL defensive tackle Warren Sapp had an ‘old-head’ moment while discussing the 2025 draft prospects. When asked about Abdul Carter of Penn State, Sapp began to laugh. Carter is being viewed as the second-coming of Micah Parsons heading into the 2025 Draft.

However, this is when it gets strange. Warren Sapp asks host Zach Gelb, who was the last edge rusher drafted from Penn State and how he’s doing. The host pointed out that Micah Parsons was the last, and he’s averaging 15 sacks per season.

What was the last edge rusher from Penn State? And what rushing he doing? What? You better look that up, 15 what? You believe this? I’m going to leave you on that one.

The Cowboys linebacker has the numbers to back it up. In four seasons of playing in the NFL, he has been to 4 Pro Bowls, made the All-Pro list four times, and has a total of 52.5 sacks.

Micah Parsons was held as the best defensive lineman in the NFL in 2023 by the AP. The man was on track to beat Lawrence Taylor’s single-season sack record in his rookie year.

If accomplishing all the above means a person still does not qualify as being amongst the best then Warren Sapp must have a different definition of what classifies as a good edge rusher. It was surprising to see the Hall of Famer call Micah Parsons out. After hearing his critic both Abdul Carter and Micah Parsons will have an increased level of motivation to be better.

Sapp serves as the assistant coach on the Colorado Buffaloes. He is opting for Travis Hunter to be the first overall pick in the NFL Draft. He had an illustrious career, finishing with 573 total tackles and 96.5 sacks.
