Darvin Ham was let go by the Los Angeles Lakers for his lack of in-game adjustments and constant rotations.
Golden State Warriors looking to hire Darvin Ham as an assistant coach to help Stephen Curry and team
Darvin Ham ended his tenure with the Los Angeles Lakers in a not the most exciting way. His time with the team was met with a lot of scrutiny and was subject to questions regarding his coaching style. However, reports have come through that Ham has a significant interest from the Golden State Warriors in becoming an assistant coach.
The Athletic’s Anthony Slater reported that the Golden State Warriors have had conversations with Darvin Ham recently about joining their staff. This is after current assistant Kenny Atkinson is in the works to be hired as the next head coach of the Cleveland Cavaliers. That would put the Warriors down two coaches after they tragically lost Dejan Milojevic this past January.
Before taking the Lakers’ job, Ham was a respected assistant with the Milwaukee Bucks. This interest shows that the Warriors respect him as a coach.
If hired, he will provide major insights, both from playing the game as well as being a coach on championship-contending teams. However, the major point that is going against him is that he lost the coaching battle against LeBron James.
To the effect that the all-time leading scorer was taking over coaching duties during games. Ham faced criticism for not making adjustments in between a game. That, and inconsistent lineups led to a first round exit in the playoffs.
Darvin Ham probably coaching Stephen Curry has fans in splits
Basketball fans know all of the above issues Darvin Ham had during his time with the Los Angeles Lakers. Therefore, they were left dumbfounded as a team such as the Golden State Warriors are trying to recruit him to assist Steve Kerr. Stephen Curry is one of the greatest players to play the game. To give him a coach that his friend LeBron James ignored had fans chuckling.
They took to social media to call out this potential hiring. They think this will destabilize the Warriors team. Check out some of those reactions below:
All that said, Darvin Ham is still a good coach. There is a lack of good assistants in the league. Therefore, he could get the nod. But it will be interesting to see how it all develops.
