The Indian Premier League (IPL) season kicked off today with a match between defending champions Mumbai Indians (MI) and Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai. Following the 2020 edition being held in UAE, the match kickstarted what is well and truly a grand homecoming for the annual sporting extravaganza of Indian T20 franchise cricket.

RCB won the toss on the night and chose to field first. They brought in as many as four debutants for their side in Rajat Patidar, Dan Christian, Glenn Maxwell and Kyle Jamieson. MI on the other hand stuck to more or less their preferred side from last season, bringing in just Chris Lynn for the unavailable Quinton de Kock and young Marco Jansen to strengthen their pace attack.

MI began their innings in cautious fashion as Rohit Sharma and Chris Lynn looked to get their eye in before striking big. The former started the fireworks by chipping a six off Yuzvendra Chahal‘s bowling before he was run-out due to a horrible mix up with his partner. Suryakumar Yadav then joined hands with Lynn and came up with a stupendous partnership as the duo accelerated and upped the ante.

Watch the catch here.

After Suryakumar’s dismissal at the hands of Kyle Jamieson, Lynn continued going strong before he was dismissed by Washington Sundar who was bowling his first over. The Aussie batsman looked to go over the top but did not get the proper connection and the ball went high in the air. The bowler ran a great deal and kept his eyes on the ball to lean forward and complete an excellent catch.
