Australia Women
India Women and Australia were involved in one of the greatest One Day International ever in the history of Women’s cricket. The second ODI of the three-match series between India Women and Australia Women served the fans with utmost entertainment as Australia clinched the match on the last ball of the game.
India dominated for the larger portion of the ODI but Australia kept their calm in a tricky run-chase. The hosts again gave a glimpse of their never-die spirit. One of the most exciting and thrilling parts of the whole game was when India had to defend 13 runs in the last over. Jhulan was given the responsibility of taking the team home.
However, the veteran succumbed to pressure as she bowled a couple of no-balls. In the end, the equation boiled down to the hosts needing three runs off the last delivery. Jhulan bowled the last delivery to Nicola Carey which went to square leg and was caught. However, the umpires revealed that it was a no-ball and Carey was given a lifeline.
The batter made the most out of the opportunity as she drove the ball towards the long-on to complete two runs. Needless to say, it was the most heartbreaking loss for the Indian contingent.
Australia Women kept their calm throughout the chase
The match between the two sides at the Harrup Park in Mackay kickstarted with India posting 274 runs on the scoreboard in their 50 overs. Smriti Mandhana led the attack for the visitors as she played a sublime knock of 86 runs off 94 deliveries. Smriti was aptly supported by Richa Ghosh who slammed 44 runs. Chasing 275, Australia Women faced hiccups early in the innings. The team lost their opening batter, Alyssa Healy, to Jhulan Goswami in the first innings.
The same was followed by the hosts losing their other wickets quickly. The Women in Yellow found themselves in serious trouble at 52 for four. However, it was Beth Mooney to kept her team alive in the run chase. The opening batter aced the role of anchor to perfection and ended up with a class inning of 125 runs. Mooney found an ally in Tahlia McGrath who added 74 runs. Meanwhile, it was Nicola Carey who applied finishing touches by smashing 39 runs off 38 deliveries.
